You calculate you minimum class weight for the engine type and displacement you are running. This is the minimum your car must weigh with the driver on board at any point during the race weekend. So, if you end a race at 1/2 a tank and are under the minum weight, you will be DQ. If you end a race at .5 gallons left and are over the minimum weight, you are Ok. Here is an example:
911 aircooled 2v non turbo engine with a76.4mm bore and 100mm stroke (3600cc)
To run GT2 the car & driver must weigh at least 1687lbs
To run GT3 the car & driver must weigh at least 2182lbs
To run GT4 the car & driver must weigh at least 2677lbs
To run GT5 the car & driver must weigh at least 3271lvs
Currently there is no limit to the amount of ballast that you can put in a car, however, there has been discussion of limiting the amount of ballast in future rules due to safety concerns with large amounts of weight and the method by which it is attached to the car.
