944 Cup Schedules -- All Chapters
The 944 Cup will be running its first races with PCA and Speed World Challenge this year. PCA licenses and membership will be required for all PCA sanctioned events along with their safety and driver conduct rules applicable. SWC will accept NASA, PCA or SCCA licenses, no separate membership required.
The last 3 years, the 944 Cup did Nationals with NASA at Mid Ohio, but with NASA moving their Nationals out to Utah in 2009 and 2010, the 944 Cup will instead hold its Championship event at VIR in October. Being a primarily East Coast series, with the exception of the Pacific NorthWest, the VIR location represents an optimum site for the Cup drivers and gives the drivers from the SE and Florida their best chance to date to be a part of the event.
The format and name for the Cup Nationals will also change in 2009. Now the 944 Cup North American Championship, the format will consist of 3 points scoring segments. Each scoring segment is worth a max of 10 points. Anyone with a legal Cup/Super Cup car and current comp license qualifies to race the Championship weekend.
The first segment consists of earning 1 point for each regional race done during the 2009 season up to a max 10 points. The 2nd segment consists of a max of 10 points earned for the first race of the VIR Championship weekend, with first place receiving 10 points, second place 9 points, etc. The 3rd segment consists of a max of 10 points earned for the second race of the VIR Championship weekend, with first place receiving 10 points, second place 9 points, etc. The driver scoring the highest point total for all 3 segments is the North American Champion. The 8th Annual 944 Cup Awards Banquet will also be held that Saturday evening at VIR.
