I assume its the same one; the Aiptek site is not all that well designed. I believe the A is for Action.
Isn't this the one you were suggesting to me?

The Action HD is a great buy for $150 (inc. shipping) and the remote comes with it so I believe it will even turn the camera on/off. Go for it!

Another tip besides hardwiring the 12VDC is to pick up 1400 mAh batteries. The Aiptek A-HD+1080P I just picked up at Walgreens comes with 1200 mAh batteries which is good up to 200 images (still), up to 90 minutes (video).

You can pick up two 1400 mAh batteries off of ebay for a mere $9.00 like I did. The picture shows a comparison from the 1200 mAh vs 1400 mAh batteries. It is working perfectly with the Aiptek. The 1800 mAh battery would be ideal which is selling for $30 on the Aiptek site.

Question on video cameras in cars - I have used 2 different sony cameras (both dv, one hd) and both stopped working after a few times around the track. They still work for everyday filming but as soon as they get any g-force/track vibration on them, they stop. Does the Aiptek not have this issue because it is "solid state"?

That is correct, no moving parts.

All hard disk and cd based camera have this problem, and are basically useless for in-car applications. The Aiptek is entirely solid state. My car runs 1000# springs, and the Aiptek takes it with no complaints.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good, inexpensive video camera and roll cage mount for the cars?
These things change so quickly that search wasn't too helpful. Thanks.
Another cheap option is the video mode from many of the point & shoot cameras. I have a Sony DSC S60 and has VGA 640x480 at 16 or 30 FPS. It even has manual settings for focus (just found this feature). I used a IO Port roll bar mount and had no problems with vibration or shutoff at the track (even with warped rotors and vibration under braking). The cameras are fairly light and should also work with suction mounts well.
On the 16 FPS a 25 minute run session would produce a ~350 MB movie file and easily get 2 run session on a 1 GB memory stick.
Worked very well and good output. Most of the recent (2003 +) P&S cameras produce video and some of the newer ones will even produce HD output.
Mine also uses AA NIMH batteries and the battery life was good and easy to replace with fresh charges.
New ones are available for ~ $100 (Nikon Coolpix L18) and used ones even cheaper, just check to see that they have a VGA or better mode and don't limit file size/time.
