I think they give them a rev limit. Same as the stock limit. Also a minimum weight. Not sure of the exact number on both but I think close to 7k rpm and 3075 lbs.

On the 997 cars, Grand Am allows 2 different ECU configurations with corresponding weight limitations. The stock ECU config weight is 3075, and the modified ECU is 3175. See all the spec's here:

Ahhh. Thanks for clarifying that JR. I thought they had changed the min weight just to make the 997 more competitive. Wonder how much hp a modified ECU would generate....100 pounds is a lot.
