Interesting result in qualifying. 6/10ths faster for Massa? That much of a delta is either fuel or a pure dry set up or a combination of the two. Could McLaren have that much more fuel on board and have a "compromise" set up in anticipation of rain? I spoke to a friend yesterday who has spent a lot of time in Singapore and he said that it rains constantly there especially at night. We'll see.... Ought to be interesting thats for sure.

Massa on pole again! This is bigtime and he can finally take the lead in the standings with a win.

The cars look great under the lights. I can't tell where the passing (if there is any) is going to be on this course yet.

Well i waited to see if i would come around to this track, before commenting . Now after watching p1/2 q1//2/3/ i have to say , THIS TRACK SUCKS ! what a ridiculous circuit , Bernie has traded CONTENT FOR short term profits , again !

What's next " the Serengeti GP", F1 paris -Dakar with lights &mud flaps

Really bad , Australia is still the best of the street circuits ( well spa if you consider it along the same genre ) this GP reminds me of the days when F1 was in Detroit and Dallas ( look it up petewiki ) really stupid street circuits for F1 cars ..

Massa storms to Singapore GP pole

By Matt Beer Saturday, September 27th 2008, 15:01 GMT

Felipe Massa took pole for Formula One's first ever night race by a huge margin after a dominant performance in qualifying at Singapore.

The Ferrari driver already held provisional pole after his first run in Q3, but briefly lost the place to title rival Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) in the closing seconds.

However even as Hamilton crossed the line, Massa was already on course to comfortably beat his lap, setting new benchmarks in all three sectors as he lapped in 1:44.801 to take pole by 0.664 seconds.

Kimi Raikkonen took third in the second Ferrari, and like Hamilton the Finn survived some early scares to reach Q3, having been pushed down into the elimination zone in Q1 being leaping up to first place in the dying seconds. Hamilton only just hung on in Q2 as a scruffy lap left him on the bubble in 10th at the end of the segment.

Disgruntled Alonso rues lost chance

By Pablo Elizalde Saturday, September 27th 2008, 15:10 GMT

Fernando Alonso was disgruntled after being hit by a mechanical problem in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix, where the Spaniard reckons he lost the best chance of the season to do big things.

"Yeah, no doubt about it. We haven't been this strong anywhere," said Alonso after going out in Q2 when his Renault stopped with a fuel pump problem.

"We have been first in nearly all sessions and with an easy lap in Q1 I was sixth.

"In other races we wouldn't have lost much but here we have lost the biggest chance we had," added the Spaniard, who had topped Friday's practice and this morning's third session.

Alonso, who is yet to climb onto the podium this year, will start from 15th position, his worst qualifying result of the season.

The two-time champion reckons the front row of the grid was possible in today's session.

The angry Spaniard said all his chances of a positive result were gone.

"The pole position was unreachable, but I'm sure we would have been second or third," he said.

"The race is lost. You can't overtake here and I'm starting from 15th, so I will be going out just to lap the track, but it's over already.

"If there are 10 or 12 retirements and there are safety cars... but there are no miracles. We have to do a better job on Saturday, especially on tracks like this where you can't overtake.

"We said all weekend that starting from eighth or ninth would be a problem, so starting from 15th it's all over."

WooooHooooo... Wayne you and I actually agree on this point.

This looks to be another Formula CART track brought to us by Bernie. Hey Bernie, here's a thought. Why don't you select track based on providing a good race (think passing) rather than adequate mega yacht parking?

The pit stop passing should be riveting.

This looks to be another "Valencia" except this race is at night. Yawn...

I know where you are going with this but you should really hold off until the actual race, you can never truely tell in just lapping and not racing. Lets hope the race delivers like the last few have

I'd rather keep one of those two instead of Monaco, both are faster turns longer laps, and the parade lap isnt as boring.

Singapore needs to fix pit in and out or ban.

Default Heidfeld hit with grid penalty

Proof positive US Congress is now running F1 .............................

Heidfeld hit with grid penalty

Saturday, September 27th 2008, 17:35 GMT

Nick Heidfeld will lose three places on the grid of tomorrow's Singapore Grand Prix after being hit with a penalty.

The German driver, who had qualified in sixth position, will now drop to ninth after the stewards deemed he had impeded Honda's:: Rubens Barrichello during the first qualifying segment.

The incident occurred when Barrichello caught up with Heidfeld when the BMW Sauber driver was coming into the pitlane.

Barrichello, meanwhile, was fined 10,000 Euro for not using the deceleration zone when diving into the pits after being slowed down by Heidfeld.

You gotta be kidding me FIA WE GIVE UP what a bunch of weasel headed turds ...

Ferrari this season reminds me of a Chinese fire drill, complete with the red vehicles and clowns driving.....

Props to Alonso for the win, although somewhat lucky, still well deserved, and well driven.
