First race from Lightning

Tomorrow we break a 40 year drought of road racing in the state of New Jersey with an EMRA race at the Lightning circuit, New Jersey Motorsport Park. Today was test and tune, and I had no problem getting up at 5am to get there early. I'm renting a 944S2 in Super Cup for the event, and I'll keep this short. First impression is that the grounds are gorgeous. On the track, it's witout question the smoothest surface I've ever been on. I won't say the track is awesome, becuase it's no Road Amercia, but it's a fabulous club circuit. Great rhythm, undulation, curb placement and grip like mad. I could care less if I never go to Lime Rock again, this place is way better, and at 2 miles, just a bit longer.
Tomorrow we'll run a one hour enduro, I'll be back and posting video. It's Miller time....:jumper:

VR, your worst avatar without question, get that off. But, yeah, learning new tracks is always great, but this time it's different because it's not just me who's learning it, every single person in the place is! That doesn't happen very often....

Good luck with the race Gums! I'm really looking forward to your full report as I will be on that track on 7/21 & 22 for the first time.

Kiss my grits. The man in my avatar (pictured at far left, below) has given more for this country that probably everyone on RL combined.

Can't wait to hear - nice knowing something good is back in NJ...

and good luck - or whatever the proper terminology would be for club racing - ENJOY!

I just love this track. We ran a one hour enduro, had 35 cars on track and it was cut and thrust the whole time. First of all, I think this track is very safe. In most places you can see well ahead, and more importantly; there's absolutely nothing to hit anywhere (except each other). A number of cars went off, but the result was only big dust clouds, nobody hit anything. Secondly, there are many passing opportunities, the speeds are high enough, some corners like the light bulb have multple lines and we could even corner that thing side by side. Third, it's not hard on brakes, it's a fantastic rhythm track, no question it puts a premium on handling although the front straight is pleny fast as you're on the gas hard for a long time. Lastly, the pavement is just dreamy, smoothest anywhere. Funny thing, though; as there was no rubber or visual groove yet, it takes awhile to figure the place out.
I love this track, and perhaps best of all; we haven't even seen Thunderbolt yet!
