I'm still on budget for this year... of course, I haven't turned a wheel yet, and I'm working on my 2009 budget, but I'm not over!

Back to serious... my budget's around $4k/yr, with only 6 local and VERY cheap races, plus one out-of-towner to Mid-O. That's running at the front of my very slow SCCA class, and half of that ($1800, to be exact) is my perhaps slightly optimistic budget for tires - 2 sets, may or may not get me through the season.
Geez Vaughn, I spend 4k/year on beer and cigs

I went on my first DE event, so not even a race, and I spent $600. This was with NASA.

$285 entry fee
$40 NASA membership
$120 hotel (I'm young...I'll camp next time)
$50 food
$100 gas (getting there and back and at the track)

Not even including time spent preparing, post event tire rotation and brake bleeding, tire usage, brake usage, etc. etc.

This was for a DE for fun in a novice level so I wasn't as hard on brakes, tires or gas as someone with more experience.

I would guess racing would cost at LEAST 2x probably more like 3x what it cost me.

stop the madness! This is the second time in as many weeks that I've had to think long and hard about channelling$$$ towards club racing. This isn't good.

What do you figure you spend on average traveling and racing for a weekend? Is much of a cost difference between PCA, NASA, and SCCA?

The cost to run a competitve 944 spec car is about $660 per weekend. This includes normal consuambles and NASA entry fees. It does not included travel expenses or repairs for breaking the car, crash damage or continuing upgrades. Those expenese are HIGHLY variable as some guys live close and others live far away. Some guys may break the car more often from missed shifts and stuff or always want to tweak things.

The other thing is the operating costs can be even lower in 944 spec if you get tire rebates. I have gotten 2 years worth of free tires from contingecy awards over the past couple years. I don't figure it into the real cost since not everyone is going to earn those.

Hahaha. Dangerous question.

I drive a lowly SRF, but in national SCCA competition. I have a CSR transport and maintain the car, so that I don't have to turn a wrench. All I do is drive and go over data.

They are 3 day, sometimes 4 day weekends travelling to Sebring, Road Atlanta, VIR, Mid Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, and Mosport (and a few random tracks in between). Factoring in hotel and flight/rental car if needed, I will spend $2-5k per event. That doesn't factor in any damage or repair bills. The transportation bill is one of the largest costs, especially to Sebring and Mosport ($1.25 per mile from a shop in West Virginia). One additional thing to consider is that I have no associated costs buying/leasing a truck or trailer, or maintenence on those items. Some people don't factor in those costs.

I will probably spend $30k this year.

Just don't let my wife see this post.

Joe, can you provide financial consultation for a minor fee? Sounds like you could make me $$$$$$$$ ahead!

Awesome. So my $944 is dirt cheap to run.

$125 DE entry fee ( 1 day )
$40 gas for the drive to/from and the track day
$10 in brakes ( 60% of 1 pad set used last year in 11 days)
$5 lunch munchies

Let's add a good third in overrun to be fair.

$300/day.

Then again, I DO have to give point bys when the marshall is riding his bicycle around the track... so I guess speed does cost money.

We guessed at 1k per hour for the Cup and about 1k per weekend for the spec box...

Weekend with 1 set of Hoosiers is 2K, with out Hoosiers 1K, so the answer is 2k provided nothing breaks.

[QUOTE=DrJupeman;5281023]The costs will vary WILDLY based on car, etc. As Helmüt Tester points out, one general rule of thumb is: the faster you go the more it will cost.

Cup like mine costs $864 per day. Real close Charlie.
I made the mistake once and began adding a season up but stopped when I got to 20k. Never again! But I need to run on Stickers because Ron Jeff and Charlie do. It is absolutely How FAST do you want to go! Once you Run up front it is darn near impossible to do otherwise.
