Default The disadvantage of having wider rear tires than the front

This is part of the reason why I ordered four 10x18's for my track car:

The wheels are still in a box locked up in a storage unit 45 miles away from my track car

Here are a few shots with my old wheels:

My first mod to my Benz C32 AMG was to un-stagger the wheel-tire setup. I was able to mount a set of rear wheels up front. It is still and understeering car, but not as awful as it was. It also lets me rotate tires front-to-back.

At the Glen last year I learned that some BMWs sold in Europe have the same sizes of tires front and back but the same car sold in the US had larger rear wheels to produce more understeer. Easy for the owners to undo and regain "European" handling.

The 18" wheels in the pictures above are et57 front et58 rear (OEM 997 wheels).

The 10x18's I picked up recently are et65 all around. I'm not sure on tires yet, but I'm going to try 265/35 on all fours. This size on the rear provided plenty of rear traction for my car / driving level. I need more front bite and I would rather go with the equal tire size first over playing with the suspension.

IMO I'm way too much of a noob to go down the suspension road, and having equal tires all around I'm hoping to stretch extra life out of my track rubber since I can rotate them.

Discount Tire unloaded their turbo twist II replica wheels a few months ago for $50 per wheel. Yes they are a bit heavy, for DE use they are fine.

This is interesting. thanks for posting.

Please ask around and see what those in the know think of aftermarket replicas for track use. I don't know of any cases specific to the Twists but generally speaking, aftermarket replicas are usually not recommended for track use.

'95 BMW M3's had 235/40R17 all around. They then went to 225/45R17 front and 245/40R17 rear tires for '96-'99 model years. The European versions retained the 235/40R17 all around I believe.

Any idea of the RSRs or 430s run the same size on the front as the back in ALMS?

Did you have to do any modifications to make those fit in the front?

Here is the thread on those wheels:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/405626-cheap-996-turbo-wheels-at-discount-51-a.html

On an 86.5 they should work fine with the right tires, might rub a little if a street car. On the earlier cars I'm not sure. I'm doing an upper control arm swap (later cars are shorter) before these wheels go on.

Once I wear the fronts out on my current rims, I'll be moving to a 255/35R18. I don't like understeer either.
