Hey, I started gymkhanas when I was 18 too. Used to run about 15 or so every summer. Didn't get on the track till I was 28 though; way too late for any real racing career. The autocrossing skills helped a lot as it didn't take long to figure out how to drive on the track. I'm 53 now.

BTW I am in complete agreement with the rest of what you said.

This was a rough day for me. 1 day event on the new surface at Summit: New surface/old RA-1s equals rotation!

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...80682323790130

I have been told that if you don't spin at least once and event, you're not going fast enough. Hmm. I still don't like making a habit out of it. The scariest was the first time at VIR in 1. I just passed someone and didn't brake enough. I forgot both feet in and stalled it in the middle of the track...with the same car now bearing down on me. The second scary one was when I went wide in 1/2 at Summit and hit the mud. The car kept sliding...I thought I was gonna end up on the Jeff! That little road at trackout for 2 slowed it down.

I have an even dozen...

at Mid Ohio. If I have to count the other tracks, then it must be around 50. Some with help but mostly just running out of talent. Only a couple of crashes - none very serious.

Two.

But the first one was in the first corner, of the first lap, of the first session of my first DE. The instructor was oh, so impressed!

With all due respect, whoever told you that is a retard. And all the folks who say "if you don't spin or go off track, you are not going fast enough" are also retards.

Spinning is also known as losing control of your vehicle. IMO, unless you are on a skid pad, spinning proves that you failed to maintain control of your vehicle. to me, this is anything but a sign of success or accomplishment.

How many Offs have you had on track. Just dropping a wheel or two does not count. We're talking about the more egregious ones.

I've had 1 - T4 at VIR. My dumb fault ..fortunately nothing broken.
Turn 10 at Sebring. A double 360 in the GT3. Stayed in the center of the track. Wasn't so lucky a couple years prior on the street. Had a spin and met a tree. Lots of damage. Car repaired to beautiful condition, but when I sold it a couple months ago I took a $20k hit because of that wreck.

two in my DE history
1st one at LRP: Lesson of the day: don't force car back on line after a late pass!

2nd at WGI in the laces: lesson of the day was: unwind the wheel!
