Default First Time Daytona Banking

Just finished unloading from a great 3-day event at Daytona International Speedway. It was my first time on the high banks, tremendous thrill, fun, and sustained high speed even for the backmarker-s.

Funny thing happened that made me think of the topgear episode whilst testing the Bugatti Veyron at the Volkswagen test facility. The presenter said that after his top speed run he almost stepped out of the car, thinking it was parked, and it was still north of 70mph. While not even close to the top speed of the veyron I had a similar sensation.

Cheers to the r-listers I saw at the event.

Congrats Christian on your first time on a high banked oval. I had the opportunity a few years ago at Charlotte and came away with a higher respect for those NASCAR boys.
What car did you run there?

Good to see you there Christian. We all had a great time. The bus stop proved to be a problem for about 6 of us who spun and tagged the tire wall but I believe everyone was safe. I was able to cross start/finish at about 178 - it was a thrill every time. What a fantastic group of people. Well done.

this sounds like a blast. So when you ran your car at speed how much would it slow in the corners. did you overheat? How stable was it at 178??

Good seeing you Christian, yet again. The event was a blast...hopefully there will be more like it. Being there 2 times in 2 months has spoiled me and I cant wait to get another shot at it.

From my observation, it appeared that the majority of the Bus Stop victims were bimmers!

It was nice hanging with you all in the pits! Christian thanks for the Sebring sticker!!!! I hope the DE was a $$$ success $$$ for the club and Daytona so that more DE's can be held at this awesome facility. I was in awe just walking around there and watching you all run...the my best bud Tom Kerr took me on a very memorable ride!

I can't believe it's already come and gone - ah but the memories will live on. It was great seeing all of my track junkie friends, running some extremely hot laps on the high banks and wearing that SEG from ear to ear.

Next year with HSR and the PCA race!

it was the most awesome time I have ever had in my car!!! It was great to drive with many from rennlist. I appreciate the schooling!!!
Put almost 500 miles on the 996 turbo without a problem!! AWESOME!!!!!
Must admit I only topped out a little over 170mph. Got to admit was a little concerned about stopping in turn one. And the 360 I did there the ONE time I crossed 170 chasing Deetz in his twin turbo made me a little more careful!!

Kind of gives a new slant on driving doesn't it ?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.....but driving flat on a banked oval is a whole different world isn't it?

This will date me but I remember getting a ride around the banking in 1970 in a 914-6 driven by the director of PR at the time, a friend of my sisters' who lived in Daytona at the time. Still have the card that states I'm a member of the 100mph club at Daytona!
Remember you can't even walk up the banking because it's too steep- crazy!! Wish I could have seen all you other rennlisters at the reunion- next time!!

Rico love the handle and as for Tom and the other HP cars 160-170+++ ARGHHHH your turn in speed at T-1 was probably my TOP speed in the tri-oval

Perhaps next year when I finish my skunk-verks project I might get closer. Great time had by all. Next up Moroso, possibly Winterfest and for sure 48-hours

Hopefully dietz will post his video of the e30 m3 spinning into bus stop. It was REAL close - I thought we were coming together.
