Default Hoosiers or Toyos on a cool track surface

OK, loading up for 2 days at NHIS - daytime temps will be 40-55 f, cloudy skies.
Do I put on the shaved Toyo RAIs or the Hoosiers?
Oddly, I couldn't find the answer with search.
Thanks in advance

I don't think it will matter; Both will work albeit the Hoosiers will be a little faster and may heat-up a little quicker.

Thanks, Mike - I was trying to recall whether the Hoosiers were more compromised by a cold(er) track surface compared with the Toyos. Looks like your thought is that it should be comparable.
Thanks again

I used Yoko slicks in the light rain last w/e at CMP and they were amazing as long as I stayed out of puddles. The temp was higher but if they handle in the wet, they'll handle in the cool temps. They're rated for low pressure to start, so I would'nt worry to much about using them. And they come used but with 75% life + left in them from a guy in Charleston SC.

Hoosiers much faster /Toyos will last longer but will be much slicker especially at first.
Be safe !

Hi Gregg
Yes, thanks - I was inquiring specifically as to which to choose based on the cooler weather. Hoosiers are defintely stickier than the Toyos, though they are good, too. I wa wondering about the variability around the cooler track surfaces of October.
Car is really terific - exactly what I needed (or, at least wanted). We did break a couple of teeth on 3rd gear, which is odd since they are essentially new, but 3rd lives a tough life.
Thanks for the info.

I've found any of them work well enough at low temperature. Thankfully that's only about January for us!

Both should work fine. I have never noticed any thing differenent about the Toyo in cool temps. We run in January here and often times an early morning practice sees temps just about freezing. I can't say grip is perfect, but after 5-6 laps the tires come in just fine.

Hi Rick,
FWIW The Hoosiers stuck great at VIR this march in 30-40 degree temps.

what i have seen is that new hoosiers (4 heat cycles or less) can be better than used or new toyos. but, not only are the used toyos better than more used hoosiers, they seem to be better in cool conditions where it is tough to get temp into the tires.

I just ran as fast on 16HC hoosiers as I did on 5 HC's. I lot has to do with how they are used or abused in the earlt heat cycles.

I ran a set of Hoosiers last January and it seemed like they took a long time to heat up. We made some adjustments to the sway bars and it made a world of difference. A friend of mine in a similar car was running Toyo's and he didn't have to make any adjustments all day and his car was grippy within a couple of laps.

Hey Rick,

Let me know how it goes...

Will you be coming up to Watkins Glen for the Oct 26~28 Chin event?

Friday is an open track day.

They're still looking for instructors, too!
