$320 for a tech inspection!
Living in NYC and working long weekday hours I find it difficult to find a place for a tech inspection. The only place that is easily accessible in Manhattan that I know of is Manhattan Motorsports. They are the only authorized Porsche dealership here in the city. IS it not completely crazy to try and charge that much money for a tech inspection?! I think most people are closed on weekends around long island and such. any suggestions?

That's quite a lot of money to basically just look at various parts of the car. In our region, South East Michigan, most shops do the inspection free of charge. In fact, the Saturday before a DE (our DE's are on Thursdays), is tech inspection day at one of the local shops. Also, many of the senior members and instructors are also authorized to inspect, also for free.

PepePorsche in White Plains is only 30 mins from NYC and they'll do it for free. That's how I become their client. Great service. Manhattan Motorcars (if that it the one u r referring to?) I will never go again.

Living in Manhattan and enjoying an active motorsports hobby can be challenging. I suggest you look "off the rock" for your tech inspection needs. There are quite a few independant shops that will do an inspection for free or very low cost.

The charge in this state is "free" at the local, certified tire shops... The dealer does charge a few bucks ($30?), but who can argue with free?
That is ridiculous. Definitely take it to Rennwerke or the like. Call your local chapter track chair in PCA for advice. They will have a list of "approved" garages that you can work with...
Good luck.

Manhattan Motorcars are notorious for overcharging people. Try the PCA-approved locations on Long Island, do you mind leaving the car at one of those places overnight? I drop off my car at Advanced Auto in New Windsor on Sunday night and then pick it one night after work.

5.5 years of DEs and I haven't paid a penny for tech inspections. Doesn't your chapter have a list of inspectors, where you can find an individual member in your neighborhood that can check the car out for you? Our chapter has lists of dealers, independent garages, and members that will do them.

Advanced Auto is VERY trustworthy and their location is safe. There is a bus stop 200 ft from their location, so it's convenient to get to from Manhattan when you're picking up the car. Can't vouch for LI shops, because I've never taken my car there, but I haven't heard anything bad either.
