Thats nuts. Was there other work done, storage, pickup and drop off? The dealership I work at in NOVA charges $0. By NY city standards I have done about $100,000 worth of Tech inspections for nothing.

The tech inspection (for a DE) shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. If it takes longer, there's probably something wrong with the car, the technician or the list of items to be checked...

For less than 320 bucks I can find some people that will fly out to NYC and do the inspection at your place. That's ridiculous. I'd point their shop manager towards this thread just to show them how their pricing is being received.

I take my car to Rennwerke - then Metro North from White Plains (15 minutes to the station, usually by a mechanic -use taxi to go the other way.I think $9).
What i'd really like to do is start a Rennwerke ride board, so we could co-ordinate and haul @ other back & forth...
BTW, Cheech usually has some interesting cars up there...see my other recent post in air cooled;911 !

Crap $320 would cover a weekend DE at Roebling and a night in the hotel with enough money left to eat dinner. My shop is free as well. That is a Porsche tax and a N.Y. tax in one.

I've never had to pay for a DE tech inspection on Long Island. Try Rudtner's in Freeport or Autosport in Huntington Station. Your local region (Metro?) has a list of approved inspection stations and they should be all free.

Try us Rudtners we're a PCA approved tech site. Also we have Saturday hours, usually 7:30-12:00 or 1:00, the LIRR is close by if you have to leave the car.

Paddock Performance in Haverstraw, New York (Rockland County) is a PCA (HVR) approved tech inspection shop that also will do a D.E. tech inspection at no charge. They're about 35 mins (up the PIP) from Manhattan.
