Take note that the newest version of M1 15w-50 carries a "SM/SL" API rating and thats the stuff you want.

Read those labels!!!

I understand Mobile 1 is not 100% synthetic although I am not sure what percentage. I switched to Amsoil which is 100% synsthetic and have seen less oil use. Where I used a quart of 15-50 M1 on a race weekend I now use .25 to .5 quart of Amsoil 20-50.

as far as shelf life, keep an eye out for settling. The additives will settle to the bottom. They say it'll mix back in but I tried and couldn't get it to mix on a two year old bottle of Quaker State Synthetic. I also experienced this with another brand but can't recall which. It was about 18 months old. It's easiest to see if the oil is in a clear bottle.

Also keep your 50 gallons out of the cold. Oils don't like cold weather.
