Cool Tires for your trailer, what has been your experience?

I think it is about time to change out my trailer tires...any recommendations for dedicated trailer tires?

Tried several different brands and only had good luck with Goodyear Marathon.

I'll second the Marathons.

My previous set (Carlisle... hopefully no longer made) led to a complete loss of tread, taking my Trailex fender with it. (Properly inflated, still youthful tires.) Goodyear (who owned or perhaps bought Carlisle) set it right, paying to have my trailer fixed and paying for a new set of Marathons.

regardless of the brand consider the Load "D" tires over the "C".

Ha!

I had THREE Carlisles delmainate two years ago on me. They were not new, but they seemed fine. Three blowouts and now I have the pitstop routine down to a science... and SIX new tires.

Goodyear Marathons from Tire Rack are about as cheap as you'll find. You can see they are good tire here.

I recently bought 4* new 175/80 13C Goodyear Marathon tires for my Trailex from Tirerack. I saw on their website that the same size tire was listed twice and at different prices. Called to ask why and told one is made in China and the other New Zealand. I bought the cheapest one. Goodyears were what I had before and highly recommended as well.

I had them mounted and balanced locally. Does everyone balance their trailer wheels/tires? When I bought the trailer (used) the wheels had no weights on them.

*one of my 5 (now the spare) was replaced following a blow-out towing to Mosport. It is only a year+ old, while the other four were over 4. All had some nasty scalloping from a lot of unloaded pulling I guess. If all your tires are of equal age I would suggest replacing them all.

Whatever you buy, make sure to carry 2 spares.

Load rating is everything.
