April 19th @ Pocono south DE
Who'll be there??
It'll be my first DE, both me and my brother will be driving.
This is after one solid season of autox with both metro NY region PCA, NNJR and a few M-club events.
Should be a blast!!

It will be a blast! Too bad you couldn't make it to NNJR's Lime Rock and Pocono I DE's in April: I can't wait to see how you and Yarin do on the track.
What to bring:
Bring the same kinda stuff you bring to autox for starters. A few more tools would be helpful too. Also: bring more food & warmer clothes.
What wheels/tires will you be using? Not sure if you were planning on using street or race tires, but I strongly suggest to stick with street rubber for now. (I'm in white run group and I'll be running with street tires for at least the beginning of the season myself: funds are low due to new clutch!) You'll be plenty fast on street tires.
Just a final warning: if you thought autox was addicting, wait till you play on the track!
Have a fantastic time! Looking forward to your report.

Zoltan, we just picked up a big toolbox and a little one. We'll have pretty much all our tools with us. We haven't decided if we'll use the track rubber or street tires...If we use street tires I think I'd want to replace the current rear tires before the track event...they're VERY chewed up and VERY worn.
One of us will be in the novice group the other in the beginner group.
How many miles did your clutch last before it needed replacement?
Barry, What's the difference between these 2 groups anyway???
I just picked both of us to be in novice and I'll let them sort it out.
I look forward to seeing your car. That will be the only other white 89 turbo I've ever seen.

Not sure how many miles were on the clutch, but I estimate around 40k. There were a number of things wrong on my old clutch that point to the fact that when it was installed, the workmanship was shoddy at best. The centering pins were very worn on one side, and there was rust to be found inside. There was no evidence that it was my driving that caused the clutch to go bad (thankful for that!) Now that the clutch engages better, I've got to learn to drive smoother all over again!
Regarding tools: if you forget a certain tool that you need, fear not: people bring enough tools to practially be able to rebuild an engine! If you need something, just ask around.
Regarding run groups: Beginner / Novice are very close in ability: often when people sign up for a DE event, they attend with their wife or significant other. So, one person is put in beginner, and the other person runs in novice. It's really no big deal until the middle to upper run groups. (Often both intermediate run groups in NNJR - blue and white - run together.) Example of this: Frank and his son, Mike use the same car: Mike is in White, and as such, Frank has to stay in Yellow until Mike gets bumped up into Black.
Ok, I'm sure I've confused you enough!! Bottom line: like you said, the track chair will figure it out!
I still recommend running with street tires: get new street rubber, and have a blast. You'll be fast enough on them, trust me.
Most important: HAVE FUN!

I'll be at Lime Rock in just over a week! WHOOO HOOO!

Hey,
There is a big difference between beginner (green) and novice.
For most events, there is no novice group, the groups will be
green (beginners) yellow (people with some experience, say
5 or so days), white (intermediates, all qualified to drive without
instructors) black (advanced) and red (instructor).
Metro NY PCA has a few 'novice' days. The difference between
novice and beginner (or green) is that novice days are for people
with no track experience who just want to give it a try. Novices
get only two track sessions. They also get two classroom sessions.
When on the track, novices have a speed limit (unlike green group).
Finally, cabriolet's are allowed in novice group without roll bar.
Since neither of you have experience, one of you will have to
run in the novice session, and the other in green. If you want, you
would porbably be able to arrange it so each of you got three
track sessions, say you drove in green and your brother in novice,
you could donate your last run to your brother. Or, you could do
all four runs, and he only gets two. It's your car afterall!!
After you get a few days of experience, one of you can run in yellow
and the other in green.

Hi Adrial,
How's school?
I'm fairly certain that this first event at Pocono is a novice event, so I won't be there. But, you and your bro will have lots of fun.
Please let us know if the infield (road course)track has been resurfaced. It was quite choppy at the end of last year and did a tool on everyone's tires.
Email me and I'll tell you where to get the world's best philly cheese steak sandwich during the lunch break.

The Pocono South event has a novice run group; however, it's not novice only. All run groups will run as during any other event.
I have a prior commitment, so I won't be able to make this one. I'll ditto your remarks on the philly-steak. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Vinny,
My car probably won't be ready until the end of April, so I can't go to Pocono anyway.
At present, it looks like my first event will be at LRP on May 1 (Schattenbaum Region).
But, I will try to make it there in July. What's your D.E. schedule look like for this year?

Rich, right now I'm signed up for 5/24-5/25 with Riesentoter at Poc N. I signed up with a friend who's a non-PCA ZO6 guy, and we're waiting for a confirm.
Metro dates are 7/1 Poc Full, 7/28-29 at Summit, 10/18-19 Poc. N., and 11/15-16 at the new Shenandoah track at Summit. Also going to run with NER at NHIS 9/8-9. I couldn't make the Metro 5/12-13 NHIS. I'd like to get another NHIS date in there. I really like that track, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to manage it.

Vinny,
Right now it looks like I'll see you at Shenandoah. I'm trying for Pocono on July 1, but may have to attend a business related golf outing on that date.

I don't think there was a limit a couple of years ago, but maybe that's changed. Also, note that it's not a "novice only" day. It's a normal track day with an added novice group for people who would like to try it out.
If you already have a fire extinguisher installed you can sign up for the green run group if it isn't sold out (or whichever group suits your experience). It may be worth getting an extinguisher in any case, because after one day you'll be hooked.

Well, I checked and it turns out there is a speed limit, just for the Novice Group. No wonder my students were faster than everyone else! Damn, and I thought it was my superior teaching abilities.
I'm not sure of the speed, probably around 80 or so, but as long as students are driving safely they're given some leeway.
