...the #66 Racer's Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS crossed the finish line, taking 1st in GT and 6th overall at the 40th Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
Thanks to Bill Hodges and John Dunkle for helping to make it a weekend I will always remember. Their primary sponsorship of The Racer's Group and my inclusion as team photographer made it that much more special. ...It's pretty cool to feel a part of the winning team.
Tonight, I managed to review and sort 15 of 45 boxes of slides. Here are few of the best shots (so far) of the victorious Porsche.
Just before sunrise, Sunday morning...
Hour 20 at the infield's left-hand kink...
Final practice on Friday afternoon, on the banking of NASCAR Turn 4...
If you're interested in seeing more, let me know. I still have 30 boxes of slides to review.

Bob,
Do you have any of the #68 car? A good friend of mine was in that car (BJ) and I would like to have some pics.
The shots you posted look great!
Thanks
Greg

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the pictures, and congratulations to Kevin Buckler, The Racer's Group, Rennlist, ThaList, and Suncoast Porsche.
I felt almost as if I had a car in the race.

One of the many very good reasons for being a "card-carrying Rennlist member" is that you become a joint sponsor of this winning Porsche racing effort. Beautiful shots! Congrats to All!

Bob, very nice pictures. A few questions please. 1) Is the Nikon a digital camera? 2) Can you format it so we can use the pictures as a wallpaper? 3) If there are copyright problems, would you be willing to sell the pictures? 4) What happened to the headlight lens at the 20th hour? 4) Did you wear ear protection? Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Arthur, the F100 is a 35mm film camera. Digital has come a long, long way in the past 2-3 years, but it is still no match for film.
I will consider doing a wallpaper version of one or two pictures. I generally shy away from providing higher resolution photos.
During the race, I spoke to John about offering pictures for sale via the Rennlist Store, with a portion of the proceeds allocated to help defray the costs of running this site. He seemed enthusiastic about such a prospect. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to discuss again soon and make some decisions.

Bob, I have a question.
What shutter speed can one use to get the effect you got....that of the car not moving, but the wheels definately show movement.
Thanks

Steve,
It seems that Bob is panning the camera to blur the background (see the colored blocks on the curbs and the grass) and capturing the car still. But the speed is not fast enough to stop the wheels. I would think a pretty wide lens and close to the action combined with a speed of 1/1000 would achieve similar results.
With that said, let me say those are some of the best racing shots I have ever seen, hands down. Fantastic work Bob. Can I ask what kind of scanner you use?
E. J.

Steve and E.J.,
The top picture was taken at approximately 1/20th of a second with a 600mm lens mounted on a monopod. I panned, as best I could, to follow the car. It's a very "hit or miss" process, resulting in about 1/2 the slides going straight into the garbage.
The other two shots were with the same lens setup, both were probably 1/125 or 1/160 of a second.
1/1000 will literally freeze a car. ...even one going nearly 200mph. When panning, this eliminates all "sensation" of speed. The only time I shoot that fast is for head-on shots, where spinning of wheels cannot be seen anyway. Often you can still get "speed" in the shot if the suspension is compressed on one side of the car and/or the driver is leaning.
Scanner is a CanoScan FS2710. It's the best of the budget scanners. However, I'm about to buy one of the new Nikons.
Thanks for the comments.
