Battery Relocation to Smugglers Box
Does anybody know whether relocating your battery to the smuggler's box is a no-no in PCA stock class? The rules allow you to install a fuel cell, and with the cell in place it would be difficult to get the battery in and out. Anybody BTDT?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

I am a member of the San Diego Region and i have not seen any issues (points) regarding the placement of the battery other than how it affects weight distribution. I tend to agree with leaving the battery as far forward as possible for more balance. IMHO

The smuggler's box is located in the trunk behind the fuel tank-- on the early 911's it contained a Webasto heater, which was a gasoline-powered, forced-air type like you'd find in a twin-engine airplane of the day. In the later cars, it housed the air conditioning evaporator (the cold part) and blower. It makes an ideal place to mount the battery, and some people say that's what Porsche originally intended, but that they relocated the batteries to the extreme front corners of the car in an effort to reduce oversteer (the same campaign that led them to put cast-iron weights in the front bumper).
I can neither confirm nor deny rumors of its use as a concealment for various types of contraband.
p.s. the PCA'ers I spoke to said it's ok to put the battery there in the context of a fuel cell install only.

Thanks, you do learn something every day on this board.
Hmmm... I bought my 993 Coupe used. I wonder if it was ever seized by the DEA...

My freind in PCA stock class got "busted" for not having his battery in the stcok location, not having trunk carpet and not having the heater blower motor installed at his first PCA race. They let it slide but said to fix it.
