Post Electrical Cutoff switch questions

Two questions:

I am building a car to run in PCA racing, I know I read in the rules somewhere, but I can't find it now, the restictions for the location of the switch. I really don't want to put it on the outside where the wipers are as so many others have, I would like to put it in the cockpit with me like NASA allows. Has anyone seen a PCA car with logbook and the cutoff switch in the car, if so where was the switch and where was the sticker tell where the switch is.

Second question: I bought the "better" switch which has the ability to pull the ignition to ground when the cutoff switch is turned off. the idea being that you alterator can still power your system after the cutoff switch is turned off, so this one actually ties your ignition to a grounded resistor, thus pulling the igntion to ground preventing any possibility of a run-on in your motor. I am using the stock CDS unit and I can't get a definitive answer if I will damage the CDS if I pull if to ground. Any know?

Thanks

Jim,

From the 2001 PCA rules:

"An electrical cut-off switch, either externally mounted or with externally
accessible pull wire - preferably on the driver's side - is required. The
location of the handle or pull must be indicated with the standard ap-
proved decal. The switch must disconnect the battery from all circuits
except electrically operated on-board fire systems, and must shut off the
engine while it is running well above idle speed. (See Appendix C)"

There is an article in Up-Fixin Volume 10 about wiring the "better" switch up. If you don't have access to Up-Fixin', I can look it up tonight.

Here's the picture:

The article is in Vol 10, p. 121. Hookup says: The line "15" from the key controls power to the CD box. Remove this wire from the fuse block and hook it up to the "z" terminal spade under the switch. Add a wire from the other "z" terminal spade back to the same fuse you disconnected from the key line. This should put the key in place to cut power to the CD box and the fuel pump.

On the large threaded terminals, first on the side with the "z" terminal that has the line from the key, connect the heavy duty battery cable from the battery "+" terminal to the kill switch. Connect the cable from the starter to the other threaded terminal, which is on the same side as the "z" terminal with the wire going to the fuse block. Connect a jumper from the large threaded terminal with the starter cable on it to the small "w" spade tip connector under the kill switch. Connect a wire from the other "w" spade tip to the 3 ohm resistor. Connect the other end of the resistor to ground.

Test to see if wired correctly: start car and turn on the headlights. Turn the car off using only the kill switch. If the lights get really bright before the engine dies, the wiring is wrong.

Hello

The setup is needed to resue the life from your alternator. If you cut it off complete the diodes will be charged and melt away.

There had been several places.

Mostly the switch is close to the battery and Porsche even has a support brace for Cup cars.

On old rac cars you can see them sometimes mountet ahead of the sfifter or in the middle of the dash topper where the speaker sits. Had seen them in the radio cutout too.
