Post New Lightweight Anti Roll Bars And Drop Links

In the past, as some have been interested, I have posted pictures of rather complex pieces of engineering designed to reduce weight and improve performance. In a much simpler vein, attached are pictures of front and rear anti roll bars made from 4130 tube with machined 4130 ends. These particular bars are the equivalent of a 24 mm solid front and a 21 mm solid rear. Their combined weight savings over the Porsche originals is a total of approximately 9.75 pounds. Additionally, weight will be saved through the use of the titanium bushing stops that will be attached with fasteners, titanium mounting brackets and titanium mounting bracket fasteners. Finally, the rear bar shown is a bit unique as it has the somewhat complex bends required for use with the Tiptronic and it is four-way adjustable rather than the three-way adjustable rear bar usually used on Type 964 and Type 993.

And, and let me say that no club racer needs these, if you want the ultimate in anti roll bar related hardware, titanium drop links!

Once again beautifully executed parts.

I would like to take a set Robert. Need them for a 1995 993 C2. I would need 2 complete sets of sway bar droplinks for backup parts.

If you know anyone that has the current capability of making a Titanium exhaust system I would like to get a set of Titanium headers to take more weight of the rear end of the 911 too.
Have a great day!

Although I understand that paragraph two of your reply is in jest, as to paragraph 3, titanium does not lend itself to headers in a Porsche -- having said this, making titanium headers is achievable.

Robert:

I have you beat. My little motorsports concern, Parabolica, is about to wow the racing world with an entire race car made entirely from dental floss. The weight savings over titanium is considerable.

Seriously, dude, you have too much time on your hands!

Actually I wasnt kidding about making Titanium headers and certain exhaust components. Fabspeed Motorsport, my company, (an this is not meant as advertising to anyone reading this) is working on making racing headers for normally aspirated 911 and crossover pipes so people can save major weight off the rear end of their 911s.
Any weight off a 911 is best taken from the rear end. I am working with a bicycle frame manufacturing company and hopefully something will come to fruition that is reasonably priced and save 20lbs off the "as-end" of a 911.

Vette mufflers are titanium, right? Maybe you can hack one up to fit.

Joe,
I believe two So. CA companies, Burns Stainless and SPD can fabricate or at least provide tubing and collectors for a ti exhaust system. This is probably the best material for an exhaust system. Hope you can address the difficulty in fabricating ti and cost issues (ha!)

We have a couple Z06 Vette Titanium takeoff muffler systems and pipes lying around at the shop in New Jersey. Many Z06 guys runn no mufflers and catbypass pipes and save more weight with a straight pipe system and /or think stock Z06 is too quite. The Vette Ti mufflers are too big for a 993 or 996s. Also even if we made them fit its strickly "one-off" stuff.

I want to make Ti headers with merge collectors and some lightweight parts as taking weight off the rearend of a 911.....the engineering challenges of welding and then durability are some concerns. We see and perhaps send out demos to you racers to abuse and see if it all stays together!

Joe,
Add me to that demo list.
Are you going to make it to the VIR Club Race?

If nothing else maybe you can have the alloys analyzed. Unless it violates a patent, it might save you some engineering time. It's already designed to withstand vibration, etc.

no I am no going to make VIR. I would like to hookup with you at some point....let me know what events you are doing. I will be at Mosport and Summit point and perhaps Road America if the stock market doent go under 7000.
joe

PS the titanium is such a pain in the *** to weld as it has to have a complete gas shield. Perhaps the weight savings are not worth the aggravation factor! We will find out.

I had a Ti exhaust on my Yamaha R6. Seems like the sportbike aftermarket suppliers are able to make them. I wonder how much difference from an engineering/design standpoint there is between the 2 and 4 wheeled Ti exhaust systems.
