Post Seek advice on glasses that will fit in helmet

I am looking for recommendations on eyeglass frames that will fit inside a very tight-fitting OMP helmet. Traditional frames are pinched by the helmet. Does anyone have any recommendations on helmet-compatible frames?

Thanks in advance.

Accuflex makes a pair with very twistable/flexible temple pieces. Very easy to slide in between your balaclava or helmet and your noggin.

Hardest part is getting them hooked over your ears.
Half the time I don't, but the helmet is so snug, it holds them in place.

I also got matching clip-on sunglasses so I don't need to have two pair or change visors.

Just make sure you bring your helmet to the eyeglass shop.

One of the best eye glass frames are the standard issue USMC Officers specs. Straight ear pieces, stiff frame made to slide into the helmet of an aviator. The best deal is they are free upon graduation at Quantico. Call 1-800-MARINES.

But the thought occurs to me, don't military aviators have to have 20/20 eyesight or better?

Well, I would not know first hand as I was enlisted but I would think that was "corrected" vision.

On a serious note they are great helmet frames. We happen to have a Marine Aviator on Rennlist I will ask him if us outsiders can buy them.

Randolph Engineering is a supplier to the military.

Go to your local Optical Store or some online sunglass sites will have them, you want straight temples (spatula) and have your RX put in them.

Looks like David Floyd has your answer - I never knew anyone actually WANTED these glasses (my wife hates 'em!) The standard "government issue" aviator glasses work well for me & I find that I can slip them into my helmet (G-Force) fairly easily.

Mike in Chi - in general PILOTs need 20-20 uncorrected, but us guys in the back can have corrected vision (I'm a USMC Weapons Systems Officer - F18Ds)

Now, if you all want a set of really cool shades - get the "original" military issue BCGs (Birth Control Glasses - 'cuz their so ugly NOBODY will want to hook up with you!)

Brandon,

Why did the think the F18s were single seaters? Maybe that was the first release or only the USN versions. Anyway, its hard enough to sit in the right seat in a students car, I cant imagine the back seat of an F18. <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" />

Do you know what a FUGA is? Anyway, about 8 years ago, I rode backseat in a FUGA in El Salvador for about 2 hours. My only jet ride and boy what a rush. I lost lunch for 1.5 hours of the 2 hour ride. I did get to drive a little since it was dual stick - that was awesome.

Heres a pic of a FUGA:

I won't drag this one too far OT - you've got mail

Yes, Navy has F-18C's (single seat)
Marine Corps has F-18C's and D's (two seat)

FUGA sorta looks like the T-2 Buckeye front, crossed with a Beechcraft Bonanza back eh? Bet it was an awesome ride.

So Brandon and EJ, what's more fun?

Pulling Gs on the track or in the sky?
