Default Just bought a Trailex. Any advice?

I just bought a new Trailex open aluminum trailer with surge brakes for my 996 and I was wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions on potential problems, maintainance and general opinions on options I should get. Thanks guys!

Which model did you get? I am looking into buying one.

Get the wheel bearings serviced annually. Also have the brakes checked at that time. Besides that they are pretty close to mainteance free as you can get.

Why'd you go with surges over electrics, Rich?

Hi Rich,

You made the right choice. I have the same model w/tire rack and electric brakes.

Annual check on wheel bearings, brakes, as mentioned. Also, be sure to check the pressure on each tire every time you head for the track.

Hey Mark! Turns out that the only dealer down here only gets surge brakes from Trailex. No biggie, I'm just psyched to finally be able to tow. Now, if I could find a way to make the 90 degree turn into my garage and get this thing in where I need it to be, I would be happy.

Surge brakes are fine, just get used to using them. When you really need them, transfer weight quickly, otherwise just brake normally. I get mine serviced annually when I have the bearings checked. Keep an eye on your tires, especially in FL. If they get a glazed look, get rid of them. I lost two while towing this year, a regular then one of my spares. In FL it would probably be a good idea to buy tire covers for when it is sitting in the sun. You can make them or get them at an RV store. I think you will be very happy with your purchase.

I bought the same model (elec. brakes) four season ago and other than an annual check on bearings and brakes, it has needed nothing. Precision Motorsports, where my cars spend my money, is also a Trailex dealer, so they do the check-ups. I tow to 12-14 events each season (approx. 6,000 miles). The bearings were serviced after three years and the brakes were about 50% remaining.

For options I have the tire rack, tool box, side mount spare, aluminum 14" wheels and fuel jug holders.

Great idea on the tire covers. I lost two tires in one trip and it really is a mess (tears up the fenders) , not to mention a pain the the ***.

Reminds me, carry two spares. As two people here have stated, it isn't unusual to need two tires.

Not to hijack this thread, but it looks like the underside of the frame of my trailex is getting rounded out whre the axles are hitting it (maybe it is time to replace the leaf springs). It has also damaged the bottom of the ramps, which look like they were repaired by the PO. Has anyone replaced the suspension on their trailex as well as the frame component that has been impacted several times over the years?

I need to call trailex about it, but I have been too busy . . .

That's good, never heard it before.
