porsche shop near philly???
 

I live in NY, but my uncle who has a 997 lives in Philadelphia and I would like to get him to take his car to a good race shop to get a proper alignment. Does anyone have suggestions. Thanks

From a Porsche Dealer, probably Holberts or Brandywine are the most capable. For a private shop with racing creds go to Dougherty Automotive in West Chester.

Performance Automotive in Malvern is hands down the most capable shop in the Phila area outside of a dealer. They are the only private race/prep/repair shop in the metro Phila area with the latest up to date Porsche diagnostic tools to read codes, etc. I could go on and on but know that other shops in the area simply drive your car to the dealer for such work and that is a BIG no no in my book.

Wow, are you sure that's the case? Those are some pretty strong words... :confused:

My husband is a Riesentöter Region tech inspector, a Bosch Service Center, and was a Porsche Technician... other shops (AWE Tuning for instance) send cars to his shop. He's a racer, and set's up many cars for the track. They do racing alignments, corner weighing, suspension... and regular service on European makes.

I don't think such a blanket statement is appropriate, Performance Automotive is certainly capable, but they are not alone.

I'm sorry, but you are misinformed, both my husbands shop and Dougherty Automotive have those tools. I'm tired as well... What you are saying here is, in your own words, BS.

I've seen your results in Spec Miata, and I would guess you know who Chris K is... we set up his car... no BS there.

The shop has been open for 20 years, but we don't advertise. Strictly word of mouth, and the shop is very busy. The guys at Performance Automotive know us, and this post has nothing to do with them, but I take umbrage at you claiming to know what's going on, obviously, you don't.

I know Chris personally and have gone wheel to wheel with him many times. Feel free to call me and speak if you'd like, The old Bosch 'hammer' tool and others are NOT the latest diagnostic tools. Can't get into anything later than a 964!! Again, I will bet my spec miata OR our cup car that NO shop other than Perf Auto or the area dealers have the Porsche brand diagnostic tool. Fully supported by Porsche, with all the most up to date code reading info, etc. In fact, Per Auto is the only shop in the area that has priority getting Porsche OEM parts as well. My only point was that this guy with a 997 would probably like to take his new car to a place that can fully support the newer models.

What is your "husband's shop?" Eh, nevermind. I'm done on here. The fact that neither your husbands' nor Perf Auto are on here joining this pissing match says it all to me... they're working hard and letting their work speak for itself. Time for a cold beer.

There isn't a shop nor a tech that is perfect. I have heard good and bad about all of the local shops and dealers in the Philadelphia area. For my street Porsches (newer and under warranty), I use Holbert's, and have been very happy with them. You can call Jerry Gross (Porsche Sevice Mgr.) 215 343 2890.

I have friends that use Dougherty, Performance, and J&J, Mike Tilson's and AWE. I feel all have their strong and weak points. Some have told me about a shops trying to "sell" work on cars. I have also heard about missed diagnoses on problems.

For track alignment I would use Performance. They did the suspension work on my track car and dialed it in perfectly. I also had a highly respected club racer who has his own shop that works on Porsches tell me that he has Performance do all of his race alignments. For other work I depending on what it is, I may choose another shop.


The only shop that doesn't get complaint is yourself (or atleast no one else hears about it)!

thanks my uncle is calling performance.

my first and last dealing with Performance was getting grossly overcharged for a set of rear Michelin Pilot Sports ($400 each) last year. The only reason that I bought them was I had a DE and needed to get rear tires. they had the audacity to then tell me that they don't make $$ on tires and wouldn't even give a PCA discount.

They may be good at what they do but they'll never get any more $$ from me.
