Question Pinion depth measurement

I’m looking for a better method of marking pinion and ring depth mating surfaces. I’ve used plain grease in the past but wondered if anyone had a good material that stood out better for measurement purposes for contact points.

There is a yellow grease like substance that you can get at any Ford parts shop...stands out very well.
