Looking for DE Instructors...

I am trying to organize a track day/DE at Putnam Park for the motorsports club at my college. We don't have a concrete date or anything set up, but we are looking at trying to run 2 sessions of cars in a full 1 day event. None of us have any real experience on a road course but are very interested in gaining some.

I don't know what you guys usually get or whatever for instructing, but I'm sure we could work something out. Right now I'm just trying to see if there is anyone interested in helping us out.

I could probably come out and help out with a DE if you give me a set date.

Try 3 sessions of cars where the 3rd is for instructors. From what I have seen, typically track days would be split into 4 or 5 run groups rotating through 20 to 30 minute sessions.

Either that or $1000 plus expenses. Just kidding.

2 hours of total track time in a day should be both satisfying and exhausting.

Just a suggestion.

Depends on the date for me as well. As far as what we get - free tack time is the usual. With only 2 run groups you can add a 3rd for instructors and still get more than enough track time in a day.

That sounds like it is doable... I'll let you guys know a date when we get funding and everything finalized with our Student Government.

Have you considered liability insurance? Corner workers? Paramedics? You should talk to someone from a PCA region who organizes these things. Also, most organizations require a "Drivers Training" stage where there is classroom instructor and an instructor riding along with each student. The reason is safety.

Another option would be to get in touch with one of the local club's registrar and/or cheif instructor to assist. These folks have alot of experience and can make the day go as smoothly as possible. There is alot of things to deal with when running a track day.

You will be shocked when you find out what Putnam charges for a day. If you can swing that with your student government, I think we'll know where our future US senators/representatives go to school. Is your real name Jack Abramoff?

I may be available, and I have taught classroom also. I will be living in Indiana by 1/31/06.

I got a quote from PP today and it really is about what we figured. Our SGA gave us $17K last year to buy a rail dragster so ~$7K shouldn't be a problem. That rate includes corner workers, paramedics, wrecker, radios and insurance.

I would need a date (weekend) I hope.
Thanks,
Gregg

Right now it looks like it would be the April 1 weekend. That is the only day that PP has open btw now and the end of may. How many of you will be able to help given this information?

horsepowerfarm 01-17-2006 06:19 PM

I am available the weekend of 4/1/06.

All times are GMT -3. The time now is 06:06 PM.
