I had my local crankshop drill my crank. That is not a "at home" job unless you day job is as a machinist.

The pan baffle I had done as we as it required aluminum welding. You can do a search and probably find a few pics of what these look like.

Having Blown the number 2 and after doing a complete rebuild and dry sump last winter, I consider myself a semi authority on this lack of lubrication issue. M78 sounds like he's been there too.

I HAD an accumsump and it did me no good. Anyone who knows these cars eq Roy Chong feels the only longterm solution is to Dry Sump it. As I did, this season was short for me, but no issues, thank God.

Basically, there are only a few things you can do. I had all of these and starved it in the downhill carousel at VIR,or you spend like 6-10k for a dry sump setup and be done.
1. Accusump
2. Modified oil pan baffle
3. Modified oil pick up
4. Do not overfill oil, but be fanatical checking your levels, change after every event
I used to use Mobil 1 and was surprised when my engine builder switched me to Torco, he says its better. It does cost about $4 more a quart than Mobil 1.

Good luck on your rebuild. I feel your pain. Atleast you blew late in the season, and didnt wreck.

Yep, I was there with Rich when this happened - but by the time I reached where the car went off the track in the middle of Roller Coaster, just before Hog Pen turn, the fire underneath Rich's car was already out!

PS: BTW, Rich, the CV joint is still working like a charm! At the same event, (NNJR - VIR last fall) I arrived with a failing CV - and Rich gave me his spare - love the brotherhood or Porsche track guys!!

Evil, The shop that used to service my car went out of business/or was in transition should I say. So I went to the shop that built the car for the previous owner. Bodymotion, they had done a few of 44 sumps so they already had a parts list and plan, and got the job. I spoke to many other shops and the estimates were competetive. Motor is no where near at 100% of its potential yet, but runs well. It shall be completed before Sebring and is out of the car now, acnnot wait to have it completed. Spent most of the season getting the bugs out, but I am happy with the result. Ran my first 2 races with it and had a blast.

Z-Man no prob with that axel, glad I could be of help. Wish I was going to VIR, but not happening.

I've got some great video of the spins and flames, my hosting site is so slow though. I use Neptune, any suggestions for a better site??

Hmm,
I am assuming a drysumping a 944 motor is not cheap or easy.
Is the cost above or below $5k?

My question exactly.

Update on my motor. It appears that the smoke was NOT coming from the tailpipe, so the upper end of the motor might be fine. Instead, it looks like I developed an oil leak over the weekend that caused oil to splash out when I turned corners, and thus the smoke during the corners.

The oil is full of metal, so I apparently have spun rod bearings. I am getting everything lined up with a little help from my friends and I will be trying to get a new motor installed before VIR with NNJR (if possible).

APKhaos: I Club Race in GT3S, so basically almost everything is allowed. For stock classes I doubt it's legal, but check it out..

Evil: I would definately reccomend dealing with someone who has done them before. Lots of plumbing, custom brackets, alternator relocation, etc etc.

Talk to Ivan. He dry-sumped the red "968" he is working on if you are curious what it entails. I assume it would be not possible to pass off "dry sumping" as just a "cooler" . . no dice for CR.
