Another weekend in ITB with the Mighty '24! - Now With Video!!!
Long story short... it's pretty darn fast when I can keep it on the black stuff!
OK, actually that was the previous race weekend - still haven't gotten all the pics uploaded, and video I'm still working on - had some machine-level issues getting Trackvision working with the new DV format, but hope to have it sorted and video posted by the end of the week (from both race weekends).
Had a lot of fun, but still working out the suspension development of the car. Good news is we're really hauling; bad side of that is the car's real sensitive to changes now, so we can really lose ground if we take the wrong step (as we did, adding spacers without adequate planning or testing). We are definitely going to have to do a real honest-to-goodness test day before much longer here. Full rundown on the weekend:

With a little more development of both car and driver (plus maybe some tires that are less than 3 years old!) we should be able to give that pesky Bimmer a run for his money...

You look like you are starting up with the ITA cars. What track is that? Howjado? I think the 924 wil make a good ITB car. I would try one, but they are so hard to find in decent shape.
Good luck,

Thanks!
Find 'em? Hell, they find you? I'm waiting for them to start being abandoned on my doorstep! LOL They're all over the place, and cheap. Easy to get a race donor for 500-1000. After all, they are all galvanized 78-onward. Then you just gotta graft in the 944 brakes, strip it, cage, fresh motor (the hard part - little knoweldge here, we had to learn a lot), and race suspension. You get the handling and braking of the 944 without quite all the power, but still get to run up front!
Ours wasn't even built that well - was only my first racecar ever! If they were built with the same level of detail as the 944's are being built, they'd be tough to beat. There's a whole long list fo things I'd do different. We've got the Rustangs covered, it's more a challenge to beat the Bimmers and Volvos at this point. More driver development needed...
But that's why I would recommend building your own, not buying a built one; most are built as cheaper back-of-the-pack ITA cars, I'd think, and not likely built to the necessary standard.
This is from my home track, Waterford Hills (www.waterfordhills.com). We're actually starting with IT7 cars (which are just ITA RX7's running without the ITA pack).

You ever going to make it out to a NASA race, Vaughan?

Nice work, Vaughan. You are becoming a grassroots racing legend! Looking forward to the video, too.
There are a couple of 924s running in the Mid Atlantic 944Cup, so PM if you'd like to get in touch with these guys.

Legend in my own mind, you mean!
I know the guys in MidAtlantic - you mean Jeremy and Ray Jadczak and John Brown, right?
Not sure when/if I'll make it to a NASA race; it's hard to compete now that we've merged most of the ITS cars into GTS1. Maybe if I ever get a faster car built, but it's not in the cards now. Though I may yet come out for the August NASA weekend at Waterford, just to show some how it's done...

Why would I want to tow that far to be, at best, mid-pack (even if I did go to the trouble of lightening the car)? I'd rather run an SCCA Regional! Run where the opportunity exists, not to mention more competition...

Updating with video... so far it's only Race 1 stuff (as with the photo above), but I should have the Race 2 stuff merged with Trackvision and edited for content sometime tomorrow (that's the problem with a quieter tailpipe - sure, you make sound, but now I gotta learn to watch my language...

Just the highlights, but some real good fun stuff... more to come!
