Indy 500 Surprises...
All I can say is where did Danica Patrick come from?? She was a decent Atlantic driver, but not spectacular, and up to this point has been having a stellar rookie season, but who really expected this out of her at the 500? WOW... If she hadn't had that little bobble on her opening lap, she would be on the pole right now. Rahal-Letterman won the race last year and with Danica it looks like they may have a chance to do it again this year. Do you all think she can keep the speeds up to and through the race?? Do you think that she will be a contender in the actual race? Who is your pick to win the race?

I don't know the answers to those questions, but I can say that I'll be rootin for her!
She seems to be a sharp kid with a good head on her shoulders. Hopefully she'll do well.

It's going to be a Newman / Haas show.

I went to high school with Danica and she is quite tough and extremely determined. She remains quite hard on herself, but that is what it takes to succeed. She is defintely out to win! I'll be rooting fo her for sure!

A very experienced racer, who used to be around here a lot, said he shared an open track day with her a few years at Mid-Ohio.
She was testing an Atlantic. He was in a DSR.
It was her first time in an Atlantic, and only her second time at Mid-Ohio. She beat the course record for the class.
Eye of the tiger.

She did it right.; Started karting at about six, I think, and moved up in a planned and progressive manner. Add monster talent to the mix and you've got a star.
Being mentored by Bobby Rahal has done no harm either.
If the hardware holds up, I think she is a legit conteneder for the podium if not the win. Regardess, barring bad luck, she will be in there making things tough for anyone else near her.
Go Danica!!!!

Brandon - maybe your thinking of the short piece in the latest ESPN magazine where she and Amani Toomer hit the shifter carts? She is certainly getting tons of exposure and it seems to be well deserved. I'd love to see her win the 500.

No this was some puff piece article written by someone who was clueless about motorsports that I picked up in a flight club because it had a racecar on the cover! Can't even remember what city it was which is some indication of how my year is going. Anyway I agree it would be great for motorsports if she were to win. Who knows whether she has the character/personality to carry the freight but there is a vacancy for an open wheel US superstar...
