I know that Porsche sells an upgrade kit for the 996Cup/RSR race cars to update the power steeing from an engine pump to an electric pump. Further, I know others (I think Kelly Moss Motorsports) have used a Toyota MR2 electric power steering pump and made their own kit. Last, I know Kelly Moss Motorsport use to sell a kit for the 964/993 but I haven't been able to get much info on it.

My question is, has anyone used any of these kits with the older 964/993 chassis and aircooled engine? I have heard second hand that they draw substantial power and may create issues with the 964/993 cars, although I have yet to speak with anyone who has direct experience. I am considering this on my lightweight C2RSR project in lieu of purchasing a manual rack.

I decided I'm going to try the Toyota MR2 pump method and make something myself. I'd still be interested in other's opinions though.
