C6R being bested by the C5R
 

What is going on with the C6R?? The test data that is being released shows the C6R isn't even close to turning the times that the class dominating C5R does. Is the end of Corvette's domination of the ALMS come to an end, or do you think that during the season the C6R will prove that the Chevrolet ALMS Racing program is one to be mentioned in the same breath as Ferrari Formula 1 for thier domination of their respective series?

It's a new car versus a developed car, they'll probably bridge the gap with more time and testing..

I'm no Corvette fan, but I think that's going to be a pretty amazing car, in time.

Ed Zachary. If they run the cars to their potential in testing it may cause a larger restrictor, etc. Nothing will be even close to the new C6R. The privateer C5Rs will be better than the Saleen but unless the C6R breaks they only have a chance at third place.
Did you follow the World Challenge Caddy's last year? Major sandbagging.

:) Yep ! According to Andy Pilgrim.... he was ordered to "get to the front" after falling way back at the start of the race at Sebring. Andy proceeded to set fastest time... lap after lap... which let th "cat out of the bag" on just how fast that Caddie was. The C-5 Z06's couldn't touch him!

I remember last year my buddy called from Sebring to tell me that. Watching practice from the pits it was very obvious he said, comical really. LOL Sure enough, he was right

C5R didn't light the world on fire when it first ran. But with the experienced gained from that car, the C6R should be very fast much sooner. Probably fast already, just sandbagging

But how the hell does a Caddy KILL a Vette? Eventually after winning enough they had to gain even more weight to level the field some, and they still dominated. Did I miss something... ?

:D A few of the Highlights on the Caddie:

1. 7 liter block de-stroked to 5.7 ( think they started with the C-5R 427 block)
2. Gross weight ~ 2900 lbs.
3. Engine moved back to get weight dist. of 50/50 or better.
4. Bigger air restrictor than allowed on Lou's C-5 Z06 !

Other than that and a few other details that Caddie was.....

Don't forget some guy named Miller and another named Pratt.

IIRC, at Sebring the CTS-V's were allowed to run a Hewland gearbox or something. Their proper produciton based 6spd box wasn't out or wasn't ready in time. Once they put the lesser gearbox in and added some weight they slowed down.

That Caddy was so far from a stock car it was silly. Kinda like saying the C5R is just like a road going vette. Yeah right! The steering wheel in the race CTS was about two feet further back than the stock car.

I really liked the commentator during the SCCA runoffs who commented that the cars HAD to be stock and in fact, even though the driver was allowed to remove the rear headrests for vision, they had to be straped to the floor because everything that came in the stock car had to remain!

What a load!
