My Trailex is still for sale. I had a buyer on the first day I posted the ad. Due to a personal issue, he has decided to refrain from DE events for a time. So I refunded his $500 deposit. No harm no foul. Thanks for looking!!

What is the main difference between surge and electric brakes?

I had the same one as you're selling, but with electric brakes.

I am interested in your trailer and can pick up in Va Beach or meet in the middle (Delaware/Maryland line?). I'm in North jersey.

What is the main difference between surge and electric brakes?

Surge brakes are mechanical brakes that work by allowing the momentum of the trailer itself to compress a master cylinder inside the trailer tongue when you apply your brakes in the tow vehicle.

Is there an advantage of one over the other?

As long as the system has fluid, surge brakes are pretty much idiot proof. However, you have to adjust them on the trailer for more or less braking.
You also have to stick something in the brake if you want to back the trailer up a hill.

Electric brakes have the advantage of no brake fluid to worry about, and you can adjust the trailer braking from the driver's seat. You can also engage them from the brake controller, that can sometimes straighten out the trailer if it starts to sway.

I have a newer truck with a built in brake controller, my choice would be electric brakes. When I had my old truck (20 years ago), surge brakes were the way to go.

Obvious question for the seller - why not lock this thread and start a new one? It's not like Rennlist charges you per thread started.

I have electrics on my enclosed Trailex, and love doing everything from the driver's seat.

I'm still looking for an open Trailex but with electric brakes.

OP, GLWS, will keep my ears open for you during my search.
