Shank Penalized for TPMS Offsets at Daytona
I just saw that MSR was given some substantial penalties for offsetting there tire pressure data https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/m...zJ9ykRwwT7U11Q

Wow, good for IMSA for really throwing the book at them. An example really needs to be made of teams and engineers caught intentionally cheating.
I think they would have been well within their right to disqualify them and strip them of the race win as well, if they had decided to do that. Assuming the drivers are truly innocent in this, what a devastating turn of events for them.

Not saying what they did is ok, but why do they even HAVE a tire pressure rule? I guess because Michelin does not want their tires to blow and make them look bad, so they make the teams run them at higher (slower lap time) pressures. Just like most laws, it's all about money (Michelin sponsors the racing...).

There is a 20ish page book on the GTP data rules, sensors, CAN layout, and regulations. This was clearly outside what was allowed.

It seems to me this rules breach should be a DQ.

I'm wondering what "intentional software offsets" means. I guessing that someone wrote some code to manipulate actual data reported by TPMS sensors before it was transmitted to IMSA officials.

I thought I had read somewhere that the IMSA rules don't allow for taking the win away, but now I can't find that and I don't have time to go through the rulebook. The IMSA release is a little better than the other article in the facts https://www.imsa.com/news/2023/03/08...na-infraction/
As for what they did, it could have been as simple as simply putting an offset on the pressure. The attached is my TPMS setup (not used on the GTP cars ) and it could be as simple as changing the number in the highlighted box. This is an AiM CAN protocol, but that box exist in all the systems in some form. There are also similar ways to offset the value in a bunch of other areas too before you even get to more devious ways like a man in the middle device.
