I've been experimenting with a GoPro 7 black plus hotspot (Pepware).
I need to figure out if I can use the GoPro labs firmware to automatically start streaming when the hotspot WIFI network appears.
I've seen references to this in the GoPro labs docs, but nothing super clear.
I want to remove any dependency on using a phone or pressing any buttons to start streaming.

Been doing some VBox with a LiveU solo.....it's great to have data and gauges displayed which Vbox allows....
been racing some AER and WRL....and there are multiple teams doing it.. you can make a scene file that shows vehicle health (water temp, pressures, etc) so really useful....and since it's on YouTube etc you can rewind and show stewards an incident (not that they ever happen)
LiveU is just and encoder that sends an HDMi signal to youtube face book etc.
it's a little setup work but all in all not half bad....
In the endurance racing it makes it soo much more involved
You could use a liveU with a gopro or anything that has an hdmi out....and there are other options..
I've been using a verizon MyFi hotspot wirelessly with success and also my phone (even at summit point).
of course cell coverage does matter.
I'll be live streaming an AER race this coming weekend at summit (evclose is the username in youtube)
Example stream from a clients Miata race

We've been using the moderate solution (YI4k+ and a Verizon Jetpack hotspot) in one of our endurance cars. Works great but unfortunately YI quit making the 4k+ so they are hard to find now. Too bad it's a great camera, no drops at all in the last two 8 hr races.

I work primarily with higher level systems like the encoder-modem combos. The Yi and GoPro solutions are not reliable enough.
I’ve used Teradek, Cerevo and LiveU Solo ($600-$1000) and Cradlepoint, Pepwave and carrier supplied mobile modems ($400-$600, including two separate cell system SIM cards).
So, the average hardware to do this WELL is $1500 or less.
The more sophisticated systems broadcast streams over multiple networks for reliability and redundancy, and are the combined at the server for best quality.
I also like Jeff Segal’s newest generation of hardware and service, GPX Stream. Works well, a little more money than above.
Ive seen the Candaleria system out ($2K).
The LiveU (costs less) and the GPX Stream (costs more) systems do more of what most of my supplied teams want to do, and they do it a lot better with less work, IME.
Lots more stuff in the works in this sector! Look for a killer setup from the Rocky Mountain area soon.

No I didn't. I didn't notice it getting hot but I never really checked. It worked fine for two 8 hr races at WGI though. Verizon signal was good all the way around too.

This is perhaps ambitious, but has anyone considered using OBS running in a Raspberry Pi 4 as a capture and streaming device for a multicam setup?
As OBS is open source and a Pi4B is very low cost, this opens many possibilities. For cameras, even a GoPro is not needed as OBS should work with inexpensive USB webcams.
The wildcard is a telemetry overlay. Wondering if you could at least get basic speed, lon/lat g from a GPS attached to the Pi and use OBS to overlay it.
Call this a side project - I don't expect to get it done this season but I'll post any material success.

Well data limitations are a real thing, got 7 hours of an 8 hour race on 15gig from my hotspot before verizon cut the rate so low the feed doesn't work 🤔
But was great getting furl level, coolant Temps etc
