favorite pyrometer?
My TIF pyrometer went bonkers this past weekend. Given that it's old enough to drink, perhaps time to replace it rather than repair again. Any suggestions? I want one that inserts into the tread, not a surface temp reader. Of course. Cheers,

The Intercomp or Longacre memory ones are the best IMHO. With those, you can get temps and not have to worry about recording them right away. If you are patient, you see used ones on occasion.

+1 to that; got one over the winter, upgrade from our single readout style probe. Used a tablet we already had laying around. Some monkey business getting it to pair the first time with the tablet, readily sorted with a call to their support line - they have excellent support (experienced on this and other products recently).
Since then, the crew loves it, been getting nice data from it. Predictive mode is apparently quite useful too. Well worth the expense, especially if you're short on crew over the wall.
