Any advice on Featherlite 3110 vs 3182 open trailer?

I'm thinking of getting an open trailer that I can use multi purpose for moving equipment, cars, and race car around. I have a big enclosed trailer that's too long for most things except going to the track.

I'm partial to featherlite, and have been looking at the 3110 and 3182. I think the 3182 was meant to be a less expensive model, but is really only a few hundred apart.

Any advice on this regarding things to look for and street price? Used ones don't seem much off of new, and I've seen some people complain of wider cars barely fitting on the 8' wide model. I think most are 8'6" wide...

I've got a 3110 and love it, bought is used on craigslist and it's been bulletproof - easy to load/unload and pulls great with my Cayenne.

Go with the wider model. It will help at resale time. I’m on my 2nd 3110, thought about the trailex but the $$$ we’re mucho. 1st 3110 had well over 100k miles towing and the only reason I replaced it was the Torsen axels were a concern being 18 years old and lots of miles.

How about the length? Has the 17.5' long version been all you need?

I had a 3110 17.5' and it was great. Fit every car I stuck on it and towed really well.

I haven't towed with an open trailer in a long time, but does an air dam make a big difference? I don't remember getting much on the front of the car from towing open; just mostly underneath as my first trailer was an open floor steel. I'd be most concerned with getting rock chips....

Depends a little on what you tow with. Behind the RV my car gets pummeled, behind my Armada not so much. Of course my car is basically a rolling collection of rock chips so I don't care. If your car is in pretty decent shape the airdam won't hurt.

The air dam helps keep crap off the car but I got 2.5 MPG better gas mileage when I removed mine
