All that car needs is some playing cards in the wheel spokes.

The nature of current media, social and otherwise, you can find a group that will oppose anything. There are protest groups in my area against the wind turbines because of birds getting killed, they don't like the giant shadows, and some claiming the noises they make cause migraines and the electricity causes cancer.

The long charge times are coming down rapidly but the reality is, the range of most electric cars is just fine for a huge chunk of the population. I'm shocked at the number of people I know buying them, one of them a major car guy who one day decided the Leaf was the perfect commuter car for him. 90 mile range he's never come close to being stranded.
Even my father, multiple Corvette's, Porsche's, a Ferrari etc... is chomping at the bit to buy a Tesla or something else electric.
Are they for everyone? Nope, but more and more people every day are recognizing their benefits. My wife and sisters? They want one for the sole reason of never having to stop for gas again or worry about oil changes. May sound trivial, but people buy cars for a lot of odd reasons.

You really think people are lining up to buy a six figure Porsche because of a $5,000 rebate? My local Jaguar dealer sold out of their initial allocation of the I-Pace the day they went on sale.

I agree with your statement, but that ship sailed a long time ago.

"Let the market decide" - statements like this are so funny. It's as if the electric / hybrid cars are the only subsidized product or market in the US. Wake me up when the billions spent to prop up other areas are wiped out, then I'll start to think the electric car model is somehow unique and deserves such isolated criticism.

It is impressive, but this is the first racing video where I was happy to have background music. Nothing else to listen to.

As someone that's sits 2hrs a day in traffic, I'd love to have a self driving electric car for my daily commute. Being able to refuel at home is a plus, I don't care how long it takes, as long as its done by 7:30am. I don t care about range either as long as its enough to get to work and back (36miles) without sweaty palms..

Sure the Porssches and Ferrari are cool, but the average commuter car is just another appliance...

I don't see anyone racing toasters, or obsessing over toaster specs.. Ooooo my toaster can make toast in 30seconds, yours takes 31...

This is where formula-E has it all wrong, they are trying to apply the old "cars are cool" model to "cars are appliances" reality.

You can have a self driving car. I am not interested, given the skill and reach of hackers today

What? You don't trust a bunch of H1-Bs in a boiler room? What's the big deal? When they get it wrong, they will just send out an update!!

The in-car is pretty cool. Electric or not, to conduct a car around the Nordschleife that fast is a tough job for the loose nut behind the wheel. Dumas is an artist.

There's an onboard video of Timo Bernhard's 919 lap...parts of that almost make me feel sick. I don't know how they do it.

God damn all of you are going to be hating life in 20 years if this is that upsetting!
Embrace some new and improved tech, it's coming and it doesn't mean our cars are gone!

Not really it is a race car and the 919 evo holds that record at 5.19 ,,,still and impressive achievement to bet the GT2 RS ,,,but its not a production car

LOL, spot on - the sound triggered flasbacks of jumping my Associated RC10T in my childhood backyard.

It's impressive but that sound is borderline painful to listen to. It's piercing in nature.

Volkswagen said they couldn't get a regular dumbass to drive it. Hehehe.
