Yeah, I think we see this the same. The notion that two consenting parties reaching commercial agreements that contains unlikely-to-be-implemented provisions designed to address relatively-unlikely-but-not-impossible future scenarios as somehow an infringement of freedom is a bridge too far for me.

I agree it's not an infringement of freedom.
However, threatening "we will track you down!" Is patently absurd and invites ridicule and general phuque you responses...

Yeah, it's an idiotic statement to say that someone posting a video of a few laps will categorically be hunted down. "Hey guys, the track rental agreement says no videos so please don't post any. If you do, you might get a request to take it down. We're guests here, please keep that in mind."

Bingo.

Threatening your paying customers is unwise. Your approach is the adult way to do things

In addition to the track enforcing this provision would be how to calculate the measure of damages for noncompliance. If you did a hyper-accurate scan of the track and used the data to create a racing game they could sue you for tons.

But if you post a video from a club race on YouTube they would be hard pressed to show a dime of damage. That is the protection everyone here has against provisions like this.

Another reason not to go to Road Atlanta.

I still don’t think it’s Road Atlanta. It’s a Peachtree issue. No other AM group announces this, prints it on the web entry. Period.

I worked for International Speedway Corporation for almost 13 years.

Homestead-Miami Speedway was built with a (then) state of the art video system. There was a wall of televisions showing every inch of the track. They recorded everything. That is until an on-track incident resulted in a lawsuit and the videos were subpoenaed as evidence. They haven't recorded anything since.

It is part liability and part to protect the value of their broadcast sponsors who's investment in exclusive coverage could be diminished by better in-car video being streamed or posted by someone else.

Just had another thought... I know, scary ...

Track ownership and race promotion is a real PR game. The stakes are high and controlling the story is paramount. You can't control a story if you can't control the video.

ISC owns IMSA and now, Road Atlanta.

"The value of their broadcast sponsors" only applies to those entrants, teams and drivers of IMSA events who follow guidelines from THIS document, which partially states:

In-car video may be used by teams internally for analysis. If a team would like to upload in-car video to the internet, please sign the in-car license agreement included in the Premium and Standard Entrant Application and Agreement packets for all series. If a driver would like to upload in-car video to the internet, please contact Nancy to execute an in-car license agreement. There are typically no costs associated with the in-car license agreement, but there are approval guidelines that must be followed. Please note live streaming of in-car video or any other footage during IMSA-sanctioned events is expressly prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.

That's it.

This wasn't an IMSA event.

Someone should just ask he coordinators what the deal was.

Or we could all keep guessing and say we've never heard of this.

If we ask, only 6 pages, if we keep guessing, it may go to 15.

The morning driver meeting was a mess...held under the tech tent in a rain storm. The PCA officials couldn't figure out how to work the mic. They kept thanking each other, passing the mic, and thanking each other again. After filling out, in advance, online forms for reserved parking...everyone parked wherever they pleased. Timing & scoring went belly-up after the second practice session. Sunday's Enduro was in a monsoon.

That is true. Which is why it doesn't make any sense at all.

Also, IMSA grants permission to post after the event, for team and driver promotion, subject to their guidelines.

Have you EVER said anything like this at NHIS, or The Glen? I thought not.
