For me it’s 3 years max. Trailer tire failures are not fun.

3 years - too cheap vs being on the side of the interstate dealing with an old tire.

I had a blowout on an open steel trailer I owned many years ago. The amount of damage it did to the fender in the 2 - 3 minutes it took for me to pull over was staggering.

Every winter I think about putting my trailer on jacks and bringing the wheels inside but I just never do it.

I am in the 3 year club as well.

It's not just the cargo that's at risk. I've had to change trailer trailer tires on the side of I 95, I 75 and I 4. Crazy how dangerous that is! TPMS is the way to go!!!!

Childhood friend died thirty years ago changing a trailer tire coming home from Riverhead Raceway in NY. He was about 10 feet off the highway when he was run over. The risks of changing a tire on the side of the road cannot be ignored.

This^ & 4 years + Goodyear. Watching tire temp/pressure start out “correct” ang then grow while towing us also useful.

I'm surprised at you Rennlist! After all these posts, I expected to see recommendations that you change them every race weekend while also carrying 4 brand new spares.

Had a blowout on my stock tires (4 years) end of 2018. Super sketchy highway south Oregon with big trucks and very little shoulder. Changing with Goodyear every 3 now.

Does anyone have any TPMS products they recommend. Would prefer the ones that replace the valve cap - not the ones that need to be mounted inside the wheel - unless the ones that replace the existing valve cap are worthless.

I use the EEZTire TPMS System. The sensors just screw on the valve stem and they are theft proof. Super easy to install. About $280.

Thanks, Frank. Do they work well with rubber valve stems (stem loosening, breaking off, etc.) or do I need to switch them to metal ones? That was one of the concerns (based on reviews on other products) why I hadn't installed them yet.

Good point! I have rubber valve stems and they do move around a bit but frankly I'm not concerned because I replace them every 4 years.

After years of reading about various trailer tire debacles I finally broke down and ordered this TPMS package. It arrived a few days ago. Took about 30 minutes to unpack, set up and install. Easy peasy. Looks like it will be very worthwhile and should provide some peace of mind.

I have rubber valve stems and the sensors appear to be quite secure.
