Default Bertil Roos 2019 Race weekend 1 highlights

First ever race, and competing as one of the few rookies in the field. And, first time in these cars, so really getting adjusted to the dynamics. What is really interesting about the cars is that they are set up to be extremely loose, so any trail braking or braking through corners results in a spin. But, that also enables you to straight line brake and get back on the gas before turn-in. Then, you can throttle steer through the corner. Extremely different than the GT4 I drive during HPDE, which requires trail braking to get the nose to bite.

Some quick notes on the video:

Qualifying: This was Qualifying 2, competing for P5-11. Set a PR for the lap, but still left some time on the table, especially in turns 6-8. Qualified 8th of 11.

Race 1: Relatively poor start but a spin moved me up a place on the 1st lap. Passed on the back straight, and made a nice pass on the 2nd lap. Ultimately moved up to 5th, but DNF'd due to mechanical failure.

Race 2: Again, relatively poor start but caught up in the chicane. Braking through the turn caused huge oversteer but was able to catch it. Mis-shift in turn 8 enabled two cars to pass on the back straight, then some oversteer as we were 3-wide through 9. Caught up with a good exit from 10, but spun while trying to re-pass in the chicane due to braking during turn. Finished 9th.

Very fun race weekend, and amazing learning environment. Hope you enjoy the video!

Cars are not extremely loose. They're actually quite neutral. They only feel loose after driving and under steering production car.

Oh, and by the way, you really do suck!

Good point and thanks for the correction - guess I was using the term too loosely . Should have said they oversteer much more easily than a factory set production car.

And, thanks! It's a humbling sport. I'm still early in my career, so look forward to learning from the experts!

Bring it bitch!!!! I’m ready to school your Bertil Roos ***!! I’m gonna run in white for LRP. Hope
youre doing the same.
Also, if your heading to drop off Tuesday evening, let’s grab dinner at the Boathouse after we drop off. I’m gonna stay in Lakeville like I did last years NNJR event.
I can shoot down to Licthfield Weds night and can grab dinner down there Weds with you. Might have a few buds in tow. Should be fun.
I’ll give you a call that Tuesday morning and we can confirm up plans then. Looking forward to hanging again.
In the meantime, get ready to get schooled.

Sweet.

Be good to "get the band back together".

I think I'm gonna grab a room at Iron Masters. 5 minutes to track, and even more important, a downhill stumble home from the Boathouse. Where are you staying?

CF is staying in Litchfield for some reason. He seems to like staying a good distance from the tracks he drives at. Did the same for NJMP a couple weeks ago. Stayed an hour away from Thunderbolt. Strange behavior for sure....

I shot DTM a text this morning to see if he wants to join us at LRP. Maybe he can make it and give us some more of that coaching he is so famous for.

Lemme know where you're gonna book a room.

DG
