Default VIR and Eating

We’re off to VIR next week with Tarheel to tick off another bucket list track and a looong drive from Montreal but surely it will be worth it.

We’re staying at The Lodge, but the one nagging question we have is where do we get a good breakfast very close to the track. We seem to have dinner covered, but if you have any recommendations we’ll take.

Thanks in advance

Frank

The lodge usually gives you a muffin and apple sauce. The food place at the track serves breakfast.

Frank, the ubiquitous “breakfast biscuit,’ generally available from 7 AM on at the Pagoda Grille in the main paddock, is a staple.

Available with a variety of meat, cheese and eggs made the way you like, it’s worth trying. You may become addicted.

If you’re looking for common commercial offerings, MacDonalds is the closest in Danville, with Bojangles for a more regional flair.

The evening dining scene in the Danville riverfront area has improved substantially in the last few years, with a few good choices. There’s always Bistro 1888 towards South Boston.

Enjoy the track! It’s incredible...

Part of the way I justify my Yeti cooler is being able to hit the grocery store and easily keep some yogurt, granola, raisins, etc ready to go at the track. I'm not at the mercy of track food anymore, though the egg sandwiches (of all varieties) do get me on occasion!

I was there a few weeks ago and aside from a bunch of fast food joints or buying groceries at Winn Dixe and/or Piggly Wiggly, the options were limited. There's a pizza place right outside the track but it's like Domino's with table service. Downtown Danville has great sit down dinner options and the restaurant onsite is always good, especially the beer menu. Can't wait to hear of the hidden gems for lunch, I'm back there is 2 weeks.

Another local gem for dinner, 5-10 PM is the Milton Baking Company.

Is that in the little strip mall that has the pizza place (on the right when leaving the track for Danville)?

Gotcha. Will check it out. Never even knew it was there.

Besides Golden Leaf, what would you recommend along that quality in Danville? I find myself eating there every night almost that I am in town. It's good but it's starting to get a bit old. Still like it a lot though.

Anything else of that caliber in the downtown area? Thanks.
