I'm sure it's still a pretty exciting drive even with all the modern technology. Not something most of us could pull off!

It will be interesting to see what qualifying times end up being. They are down to 1:41.152! LMP2 is led by Team Nederland at 1:47.086. For the data gurus, Jorge Segers who wrote "Analysis Techniques for Racecar Data Acquisition" is the head engineer on that team. It's cool to have him as a friend along with some of the other folks on that team. They are getting it done!

Jerry, that's pretty unbelievable, for sure. Andy's certainly quick, but I saw the Penske RS Spyders there and they were slowing down, for sure. Same with the 908 HDi FAP, the fastest car so far, before this weekend's test...

I remember Ben Devlin's crash in the Lola-Mazda in qualifying at Turn 1. He was skimming the wall at the apex, hit the bump just before. The left front touched the wall and turned him into it. As the car went sideways, it caught air and began to fly. Hit the tire wall at the end of the catch fencing at the exit of Turn 1 on the outside and went over.

He was ok, but I was watching and doing radar gun sampling at the Turn 1 worker station (he'd been around 128-129 at the apex), I will NEVER forget that sound...

Today, the BR1 car was down to low 1:42.XXX, so that means the Toyota will work to put a bit more between them. I can certainly see low 1:40.XXX, maybe quicker?

Jorge was the youngest FIA GT race engineer when he started with Henrik Roos in 2002 with the Viper. He's been with Team Nederland since 2016.

Did you know he wrote the MoTeC users manual for the sim GTR, based on actual data and the data that the sim could generate for all cars? It's how I learned MoTeC Interpreter, then i2 Pro!

All his work with the GT1, Belgian GT, DTM, LMP2 and GT3 cars has been a lot of fun to watch. Great guy.

Since Toyota ran a 1:41.1, if the conditions are good, I don't think it's unreasonable that they would run a 1:40.xxx. It will surely depend on rubber lay down, track temps, air temps, wind, and all the other environmental conditions.

I've ready Jorge's bio too He's a great guy and I've enjoyed the time I've been able to spend with him in the US, abroad, email, and more. It quickly becomes apparent just how much time he spends figuring out how to make a car go fast. There is a reason that companies like Porsche tap him to work with their teams and customers. It was interesting to hear Jorge and Joris start talking in Belgian!

Have you met Laura? She's no slouch is a top level engineer in her own right. It will be interesting to see what they come up with for the Team Nederland car this week.

I think I was the one who turned you on to Jorge after I went to his PRI seminar in Orlando a decade or more ago!

I started using GTR and GTR2 five years before that, so knew OF him then!

I think having the WEC and the IMSA cars there this week is going to be awesome. Good luck and safe race to all the teams, drivers and crew.

No, I got in touch with him after reading his first edition book. Shortly after seeing he did the seminar in Genk (?), I put together his seminar in the US. I think you did the one he hosted at PRI a few years before you came to the one I hosted.

His engineering seminar is great too - that's the one I attended last year at Autosport. If he offers the one he did for Porsche in Brazil this year again, I might head down for that. Caipirinha and Pirimisu 51!
