Surprise - New for this year . I have been working on it for a while and we now finally have approval for US residents only . I hope I will see you at Lime Rock in April?

KITC2246 - Give us a try next time we would have saved you $30 before any multi event additional credit and give you more additional coverages with an " Fully Admitted Licensed Insurance Company"

Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions

I don't see any Watkins events. Do you cover Watkins?

So I ran a spreadsheet tonight comparing OpenTrack, OnTrack, and Lockton for their single event coverage and multi-event coverage (12 month for OpenTrack, 6 event pack for OnTrack, and 12 event for Lockton), physical damage only (no liability), 10% deductible, on my 2018 GT3 using values of $165K and $85K. Unless I blew the math OpenTrack beats the others hands down by 30% - 50%. I was finding the breakeven for OpenTrack to be 10.5 events for the $165K and 12.3 events for the $85K. 10 to 12 HPDE's in a year seems to be a pretty aggressive schedule so the 12 month policy might not pay off. At these coverages it works out to ~$600/event at $165K and $325/event at $85K. It adds up to a lot of scratch. Maybe I'm looking at the idea of HPDE insurance the wrong way but things happen, cars do get totaled, but not so often as expensive damage. I'm curious what sort of % of value others choose to insure these newer cars for. I suspect the answer ultimately is "whatever you are comfortable with" but would like to hear what others are doing.

If I read your question correctly, you do NOT want to insure your car for less than it's worth. There are other threads on Rennlist about this, but if you total an $85,000 car that is only insured for $30K, they will take your car and give you a check for $30,000. Similarly, I think that if you do $30,001 worth of damage to that car (i.e. nowhere near totalling it, but still over your insured value), they will take your car and give you a check for $30,000.

Beware!

basil2000 - We would like you to buy a package to save you money however as long as you are a US citizen and the car is kept in US we can write you

TAI2 - Yes no tracks are restricted or surcharged . Just go to New York you will see all the Glen events. We can write any HPDE event and most private track days. If they aren't listed just email us for approval and we can have it listed .

MeasureTwice - Keep in mind we give our highest discount at only 6 or more events you don't have to sign up for more . If you want to ad more events we continue that 15% credit. The other advantage is if you ever cant do an event for any reason we credit it back to you . Ex: you where thinking that you were going to do 12 events at the beginning of the year . Life, weather or car issues change that and you only end up doing 9 events .In our case you would get a credit back for unused events. Plus you get all the added benefits ,Admitted Insurance Company,10,000 pollution clean up, rental and towing reimbursement etc

mdrums - I get where you are coming from however the programs were designed based on average exposure. Most people attend both days. When we look at 1 vs 2 days the exposure isn't necessarily double. If you attend both days we find you are more relaxed not in a rush to be on track every minute of every session. Second day most people leave early. One day participation you are more inclined to do every session from Green to Checker.

mgordon18 - You hit the nail on the head . I always advise insure for real value of the car . If you discount the value of your insurance we are basing your valuation on the discounted number
Just like a street policy if you do approximately 70% (same as your everyday street insurance) of vehicle value in damage the car will be totaled. You are paid less deductible the declared value and the car is kept by the insurance company and sold on salvage . If you discount your car by 50% we are using your value and basing the 70% off that value.
Keep in mind we pay for more totaled cars then partially damaged . The cost of parts and labor today to fix our cars is staggering.

Hi Steve, thanks for the heads up on the coverage in Canada. Now my problem is that as a club we do HPDE the 1st day and TT on the second day. I will definitely consider ontrack insurance for my nonTT weekends.

For what it's worth I've been happy with Hagerty's track coverage, and they offer discounted pricing for SCCA Track Night in America events as well as NASA events, at least in the Florida region. They are new NASA partners as of 2018.

Haggerty has had the best price for me buying per event.

I looked into OpenTrack and OnTrack insurance options. I found that neither covers "timed" events, not even practice sessions where timing is performed. Here's the text from the OpenTrack policy:

“Driving activities” shall not include any contest for speed or endurance, whether against another competitor or against a time measuring device, whether in a competitive event or otherwise.

Are there any insurance options for running time trials (not racing)? Does Lockton or Hagerty cover timed events?

Hagerty does indeed explicitly write policies for Time Trials, in fact I just signed up for one yesterday. The premiums are a bit higher than their HPDE insurance, but still reasonable IMO.

I found Hagerty to be the cheapest for track weekend events here in Texas, including COTA, for my modestly valued car ~$30k.
