So for you experts, when passing inside like in this situation, is the only difference from turning on the line the fact that you have to slow the car more? Or is there much more involved in getting it right? I'm trying to learn, and when I do it I just go in a bit slower. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
If I'm taking the inside of the turn, you obviously have to brake harder and longer because you're about to take the turn tighter than you normally would. Depending on how late the pass was and how much speed you have going in, I've been known to add in a spot of prayer and maybe pee a little as well.
This whole scenario takes me back to one of the best sessions I've ever had, which was back in Green group when mine and a friend's instructors decided we'd go out for a full session of cat-and-mouse. We were to pass in every passing zone, sometimes twice. With the guidance of a very good instructor I dealt with more late passes and wrong-side passes in that one session than I'd probably done any passes at all leading up to it.
It was an ongoing lesson of where to be, what to expect, how to stay off line, etc. etc. and I'll be forever grateful for that.
So much of my Green and Yellow group experience was just about going faster. They really need more instruction on doing things OTHER than just going faster.
