There is an adapter cable to plug into an IMSA jack helmet kit and into the Trac-Com. That's what we use ourselves and it works fine.
One of the other nice things about the TracCom is you can have an output cable to plug into a GoPro. That way, if the student has a gopro in their car, they can review it later and hear the instruction they got over the video. Very useful IMO.

Yep, that’s the cable I use for people that have IMSA plugs off their helmets (including myself before I bought a Stilo). Volume was almost always way too low.

The main negative with Trac-com is you have to turn the dial almost 3/4 of the way up before it gets louder. The Speedcom volume controls offer immediate sound adjustment. Either way, both are still more robust than Chatterbox.

I'll have to check these out before the 2019 track season. I'm on my 3rd Chatterbox system. Definitely not robust! (nice way of saying it's junk) I have a full faced helmet and like to have it all wired up with the dual earphones and microphone. For my students I prefer the the one piece single earphone and microphone. What are folks using on the ROSSO and SPEEDCOM systems for the instructor and student? Can you post some pictures of what you are using? Thanks.

I started using the Blue Tooth Chatter box all in one. Just buy two of these and Bluetooth link them together. No wires and simple to use.

Very interesting. The headset looks similar to the wired headset so a heavy handed student could still yank it apart.

I had a wired chatterbox headset go bad this weekend while instructing. Not the first time this has happened. Had to yell the rest of the weekend.

We are finding the younger users like the wireless Chatterbox systems but some of the older users don't like or don't understand the bluetooth setup. The on/off and volume controls are on the mic of the unit so the student or instructor sometimes turns it off while inserting the headset in to their helmet. The ear piece is about a 1/4" thicker than the standard Chatterbox student headset so if you have a tight fitting helmet, it can be uncomfortable. With that said, some users like the wireless Chatterbox features.

I agree that Chatterboxes are pure junk. On my 4th one, and I always bring a spare to the track because there is a good chance that one will crap out. I will probably go with Speedcom once the chatterboxes crap out.

Does anyone have in-car experience with the wireless Chatterbox? As with others, I’m hesitant to go with it, given my experiences with first gen wired.

Yes - They work a little better than the wired units but are noticeably thicker when you shove it into your helmet. And by all means DON’T TOUCH THE BUTTONS when you shove it into your helmet.

Sam - Seeing your location, come out to one of our DEs (Potomac PCA) and you can try one out yourself. I know at least 6 instructors that use the new wireless headsets (I’m still using wires with a wired helmet).

Just buy a good communicator and be done with it. Chatterbox is absolute crap. I'm surprised people buy more than one.

I have a Rosso (fantastic) but there are several good options on this thread.
