As an idiosyncrasy of the vernacular, most "near misses" are really near hits. THAT was a near miss and the local assessment at 0:22 pretty much sums it up. Very lucky to not significantly offset impact as it likely would have gone off into the crowd. SMH and the black SUV driver has some buffing and maybe seat cleaning to do.

Code Brown moment. Could have been fatal for several if alignment and timing had been a little different.

That ain't the half of it - the spectators sometimes make booby traps for the drivers.

Race support vehicles can and do drive the wrong way on the highway portion of the race course in the Baja 1000, done it before myself in an 18 wheeler and had trophy trucks flying all around us. In reality, the crowds actually serve as a traffic indicator to the drivers and chase vehicles on blind head on curves. Alex's mistake was not staying in the center of the track which is RULE 1# in the Baja 1000. I heard the driver of the SUV was pelted with beer bottles shortly after video was shot, street justice happens quick there too. Rule 2#, is watch out for the Tope's (speed bumps in every town)

One of my good friends Mark Post, (Riviera/RockStar) who won the Baja 1000, had been chased by the Federalies on the highway in the baja 250, even had to evade the cops as he jumped back to the off road from the actual hyway (which they spend a lttle time on) , if he pulled over, he would have lost the race, so later when they came across the finish, the mexican police were wating with guns drawn He was arrested at the finish. what a scene that race can be!

I thought you going to post that Rossi missed the other guy because he doesn't "shuffle steer."
