From the analysis of the incident: “The speed-trap figure before the Lisboa braking area shows that she was travelling at 276.2km/h (171.6mph).”

Can't believe no one was killed, either at the corner or the driver!! Yes, the speed she went off at- scary. All I could think of either Krosnoff or Moore, or Wickens for that matter. Her exit speed even looked worse. Can't imagine what would have happened if she had gone into the crowd- you wouldn't have street races anymore.
171+ mph?! It is truly astonishing that no one was killed.

She had a 7 hour spine procedure today and is moving all limbs. Outstanding.

Certainly modern car technology played a role, but there is a lot of genuine luck in that incident... there could have easily been multiple fatalities. That temporary structure that the car hit was very flexible and had a lot of empty space. Had that been an actual building it would have been much worse. As for the other people injured, it is just a sheer lottery that they weren't in a slightly different spot where they may have been struck fatally.
The speed of her car relative to the rest was unreal

Here's another angle looking back down the straight. She had made contact and was out of shape well before the corner, hence her backward slide. Pretty terrifying at that speed. I hope she makes a full recovery. She has a promising future and I'd love to see a female in F1 soon.

Wheel to wheel contact between open wheel cars usually makes at least one of them go airborne. When that happens at 170mph, it becomes a projectile. This is why open wheel racing and narrow streets with hard buildings behind low armcos don't go well together.
