Is Porsche Getting Rough BOP Treatment?
Hey guys, I don't follow the series in the article below as closely as I do others, but it sounds like Porsche was unhappy about the BOP. I know BOP is a point of contention for everyone, but I was thinking about Porsche's treatment in the IMSA series and even in WEC. I've never really seen a manufacturer, with the possible exception of some of the much smaller brands, spend so much time in the middle or back, supposedly due to BOP. I've also heard about Porsche teams switching cars or pulling out of the series. I'm happy to be correct if I'm wrong about this, but does this have something to do with the teams running these cars, the rules being slanted more against Porsche than other brands (and if so, why?), or the GT3s not being as useful, even despite the regulations? Just curious and happy to be corrected if my perspective is wrong.

BOP is hard no matter what. If you wonder how far it can go, check out how much performance Ford and Ferrari “found” a few years ago after sandbagging hard to get a great BOP adjustment for Le Mans.
If one team spends 10x the typical budget and has top tier drivers in every car while another car runs on a shoestring with third tier drivers, and yet a third team has pro-am pay drivers in the same cars as the other two teams, how do we account for all of it? And one car is turbocharged so lots of torque and the other is high revving NA with more weight and neither are telling you about their real aero performance... and what about a high altitude or temperature day that pushes the balance in one car’s favor, or a high speed track with few tight corners vs. the opposite...
It is really really hard to create “fair” racing using the BOP concept. That said, it makes for great fields and photos!

I boycott all spec series and BOP. I enjoy the race of technology vs technology.
So I'm watching F1. A couple years back we had WEC LMP1 class.
IMSA, NASCAR, WEC GT are out. Indycar and F2 F3 are out.
Liberty Media has plans to possibly apply BOP to F1.
When that happens, I'll have to find something else to do. Maybe watch vintage racing.
What other motorsports do you know of that are not BOP or spec?

Trust me, I thought the same thing until I ended up in the ultimate arms race class GTB-1 during the height of its development. (2012 to 2016)
From a driver development perspective I think spec racing really helps improve your skills without the sting in the pocket book.
Just my 2 cents.
Now BOP F1, why when you spend 750 mil a year whats the point?

I too have gotten sick of the imsa circus. Don't even bother watching. Also not nearly as gratifying watching mid engine 911's. I will watch world challenge but usually on YouTube.

I would like to see a pure horsepower/weight class. Let the manufactures battle it out.
One design is great, like Porsche Super Cup for pure driver/crew competition.
I stopped sailing PHRF do to the ratings BS. Only one design for me.
