In 1964, $12 k was a lot of money. Like paying $100k today, which buyers don't worry about now, but things were different back then.
No, it was white with a blue stripe. Initially my dad turned it down at $14k. Then the seller came back months later and asked what would it take to make a deal. My dad said, $12.5k, paint the car blue and I'll buy it.

In hindsight, a 69 911S, which was the second car I ever took on track (first one was 72 911), was the most fun car. Good comraderie surely added to the fun, but car was relatively lightweight with very manageable power and thin tires. Understeer/oversteer feel was telegraphic which added to my driving confidence. Besides, that time was when I was young and haven’t crashed a race car. A 911SC, Formula Ford, Formula Mazda, a stint in a 98 Reynard/Mercedes CART/Champcar, 944 Rothmans and now a 355 Challenge came afterwards. Still having fun with the 355 which is the race car I’ve owned the longest, but giving the edge to 69 911S as I drove it with less worry about writing it off. It was worth in the mid-teens in the 90s.
For the purest fun, shifter kart still reigns.
