GSXR750
An 80cc shifter kart (no front brakes on 80cc karts) really woke me up. Left me bruised, mentally and physically exhausted, and yearning for more. Many years ago, and still think about it today.

Hi Frank, In my comment I listed a 911R, but I think it was actually a '70 911S. Chassis number was 911 030 1263. I bought it from Peter Gregg in '72. Here's a photo I took of my old car at Rennsport.

911 030 1263
When I bought it there was no livery on it, just orange paint, but the light was still mounted on the roof. Raced it in SCCA twice, then brought it up to '73 IMSA specs and entered the '73 Daytona Paul Revere 250 and Mid Ohio 6hr, then sold it. It ran great during the first two outings, in short SCCA sprint races, but after upgrading the car, Daytona and Mid Ohio did not go very well.

Sprint Race. Porsche Cup cars, especially the older ones like 996/7. Everyone beat the cr*p out of these cars in the CC series and they had to be seriously aggressively driven on short tracks to be fast.

Endurance Race. Audi R8 LMS. Long stretchy high speed corners are really enjoyable. Great car to drive really long stints without getting tired, feels like you can almost bring your lunch in the car with you.

Bang4Buck. I'm a bit torn here. There are tons of FWD race cars that really fun. Never tried a Miata, but I've heard they are great.

I guess you can have a great time in some old timer, but they are worth so much now that I would hardly drive 10/10th in something worth XX millions.

Early long hood, long wheel base 911 hands down. Low weight and just enough power with an S motor. Second might be a 3 series BWM, mainly because they are so balanced.

I felt the same way in '64. It was a lot to pay for a used car, so I took it pretty easy.

In 1964, $12 k was a lot of money. Like paying $100k today, which buyers don't worry about now, but things were different back then.
No, it was white with a blue stripe. Initially my dad turned it down at $14k. Then the seller came back months later and asked what would it take to make a deal. My dad said, $12.5k, paint the car blue and I'll buy it.

Formula Mazda for me. Big cornering forces for a "simple aero" car from the 90's, enough power and revs to get around quickly, dog ring h pattern gearbox that must be shifted well sans clutch, etc. Reasonable to operate as well. Had to sell it due to not having time and space for it, unfortunately. They run approximately cup car times for 1/10 the cost (obviously there are downsides, such as safety.)
