A View From Summit Point

THREE deer hits in one weekend?! Never hauled all the way down to drive/race this track and I don't think I ever will.

Summit Point has a SERIOUS problem that they've been ignoring for years. I've seen and watched MANY deer hits at SP Main and I don't even go to that track often.
I was there also and saw the same deer on the track where Bill had his unfortunate incident. It was challenging because the deceased deer was right after you crested the top of hill before going into Turn 4, i.e. you could not see it until you began going downhill at high speed. Don't know who hit it first. The following day at the same event, a Cup car was another unfortunate victim after Turn 2.
New owners have promised deer fencing. It can't come soon enough. And they need to decimate the population within the fence after they put it up, and I don't mean using cars on the track to do so. My apologies if the depopulation comment offends some.

Bikes run there all the time. In fact, my first track day on a bike was there - I was naive and had no idea deer were even a problem. Luckily I outgrew the phase quickly and put a cage around myself. I have no problem with SP and think it's a fantastic track, but I probably wouldn't run there much later than the Club Race.

My sympathies Bill. I've heard many many stories about the deer there. That's one reason I have not ventured down there to drive that track. But of all the risks you take into account when you enter pit lane, hitting a deer should not be on that list! I hope your car repairs go smoothly. I suppose if there is any consolation it's that we are at the end of the track season in the northeast. Hopefully, you'll be back and ready to go in the spring! Do you have track insurance?

Sorry about the damage, Bill.
Hit one myself several years back. Luckily a small one so not a tremendous repair bill.
Was flagging at the club race several years ago and was stationed at T4 on Friday practice day. I hear the fastest group coming out of the pits for a warm-up session, and just as the lead car comes out of T3, I see 3 deer start to make their way out of the woods at the end of the concrete wall at T4 and head for the other side. I've never waved a yellow so vigorously before. Lead car (a modified 914, IIRC) locks up after cresting the hill before T4 and manages to stop a few feet from hitting the deer. Luckily trailing cars also slowed so thankfully no contact.
That video brings a new meaning to 'red mist'...

Thanks for the kind words. Upon initial inspection the damage is mostly cosmetic. Hoping a new bumper cover and a few plastic bits plus paint fixes it. I set a new PB after the hit.
